You are replying to the wrong person. He said feminism wasn't the problem for porn. The AC did.
No, I'm not. Here's what RobotRunAmok said above
https://slashdot.org/comments.... "Porn *IS* terrified that the #MeToo and #KillHarvey and whatever other movements percolating up from the feminist Left that demonize the objectification of women will begin to impact porn consumption"
"You can, however, today, hashtag something from benign to "evil," because most all of the sheep are corralled in the same social media/mainstream media pens. In the end it is not a government ban on Porn that should scare you, it's the SJW turning of Porn into a thought crime that is the real danger."
"Assuming Q2 Model 3 production averages 2500/wk, Q3 averages 5000/wk, and Q4 averages 7500/wk, plus maybe 11k delivered so far, that's nearly 210k. If they do 90k S+X, that would be 300k, vs. your 360k."
There's are several limiting factors that will put the brakes on that. From what I've been told by people in the know, exceeding 5000/wk for Model 3 will require a 2nd assembly line & Fremont (allegedly) doesn't have enough space to accommodate that. It's also require *another* upgrade of the paint shop and they'll have to petition CA to allow them to emit more VOCs. Painting the cars outside CA would mean transporting the bodies-in-white to Sparks and then back for the rest of the assembly. It would make more sense to build a Model 3 line AND new paint shop at the Gigafactory. But all those options take a lot of money and Tesla is bleeding a lot of cash.
"Targets, BTW, are 2500/wk at the end of Q1, 5000/wk at the end of Q2, and building line 2 for 10k/wk in Q3/Q4 - so those are actually somewhat pessimistic figures" Q1 ends in 6 days and it's not clear if Tesla has reached a steady 1000+ per week yet. I see you're aware that exceeding 5k/wk would need a 2nd line - that's not going to come cheap and they don't have the space. Elon has no reason to listen to people like me but if he did I would tell him to just get to 5000/wk as smoothly as possible with a focus on getting the build right the 1st time and not need to "remanufacture" in significant numbers, as was recently reported. The Model 3 was touted as being "easy to manufacture" but that has yet to be shown to be true.
Perhaps *easier* than the X or S but easier is not the same as easy.
And let's not forget that achieving those goals all depend on - at a minimum - of doubling or tripling battery cell production at the Gigafactory. Tesla had to turn to Samsung for cells to build that massive battery in Australia; that must have cost them a lot more than making their own.
I don't know how much porn the Utah government downloads, but according to a researcher at Harvard, the *people* of Utah are quite the dawgs, which was my point.
No, that wasn't your point at all. You were smearing the "feminist Left" as being the greatest incipient threat to porn.
Ramping up sharply too. On track to ship 360,000 vehicles in 2018 even if there were no further production improvements.
There's not a chance in hell Tesla will make 360,000 vehicles this year and it was be disastrous for them to try. If they get close to 200k of well-built cars, that would be an achievement in itself
According to Statistics Norway at the end of 2015 there were 2.6 million passenger cars registered in Norway.
So how is it possible that all these other auto companies can transport millions of cars but Tesla "is having difficulties finding competent transporters that comply to Norway's road requirements"?
They're not transporting "millions of cars" every year, at most 200 thousand in a good year and Teslas have been 3-5% of the volume for the past several years, sometimes as much at 10% for a single quarter.
The same could have been said of Obama. Being vain or a moron are not disqualifications from being president.
Wrong. You can say what you like about anyone, doesn't make it true. In Trump's case, his egocentricity & stupidity are demonstrable. And especially obvious to those close to him. In 2012, Grover Norquist said "we just need a Republican with enough working digits to hold a pen to become POTUS".
You do know why. Because Trump is evil and therefore anything he does is bad. Even if other people did it worse before, he is bad. Therefore He Must Be STOPPED!!!!
Yes he must. Not because he's evil but because he's vain, easily manipulated and, in the words of the former CEO of the world's largest oil company, a fucking moron
I thought the video and several accompanying photos taken nearby were looking too washed out but thought it might have been too much yellowish sodium lights. But even if it were pitch black at the time, the Uber vehicle has a large roof-mounted LiDAR which should have spotted her hundreds of feet sooner
Forget the Lidar, or lack of (they were testing cameras?). Forget the dude (heh, the first 12 hours thought he was a she. That's gotta hurt).
Had I been driving that car, full alert, I would have killed that chick. I'd have felt bad, even knowing it was her fault. But the fact is, this dumbass walked in front of a fast moving car, at night, when she had no illumination, and the car had headlights. Her best hope of survival was a 100% functioning self driving car, anything less and she's dead.
The released video is very misleading. While the deceased made a stupid decision to cross at that point, it was quite well lit. No one with even average vision or reflexes would have hit her.
Yes, this was hard to see using passive techniques with visible light (ie, your eyes), but WTF, the person wasn't sprinting or jumping off the curb, something active like LIDAR should have had no troubles spotting this.
I would think radar should have spotted her & the bike from a ways off, too
Having supported quite a few of those "office workers" over the years, I can tell you that the various security programs put in place by enterprises to secure, restrict and monitor their users do a damn fine job of making such computers bog slow.
"Year in year fall in PC sales" - despite all that doomcrying, sales are still roughly equivalent with 2007- 2008 and still over 200 million. Declining or not, that's still a lot of new PCs
"you might not like him, but Musk has a vision and is willing to back it up"
I like his vision fine. But he's FAR too optimistic about the effort and money required in all his endeavors, ALL of which are very capital-intensive. By every measure of the available, his businesses are losing a LOT of money. He's certainly willing to back up a lot of debt. If he hasn't been mining cryptocurrencies all these years, he's a fool. I don't know and can't predict what SpaceX will accomplish next. I was mesmerized by the Falcon Heavy launch and return. But then I recalled this was suggested for 2011, then promised for 2013. Hit the landing pads with perfect accuracy; missed the launch date by FIVE years. Five very expensive years. Tesla is deeply in the red and may not be able to dig itself out for years - if ever - even if The Boring Company digs a mile deep hole. We are overdue for a market correction. Musk rescued Solar City by absorbing it into Tesla; he'd better be working on a rescue plan for Tesla.
"I haven't driven a car that got as low as 25mpg in thirty years or so"
In those 3 decades, there has been a dramatic proliferation of trucks & SUVs in North America. The venerable F-150 has struggled to exceed 17 mpg for nearly all of those years and even with the lighter aluminum body introduced a few years ago can barely break 20 mpg without some serious granny-style driving in the city.
The Honda CR-V does pretty well at 28 mpg combined (2015) but there are many more that don't fare so well. I know a dozen who own things like Navigators, Escalades, Infinitis and they can dare to dream of +20 mpg when rolling downhill.
If you really want to be fair, you can say in this case Musk's approach is to crawl, announce that you've won a marathon, walk and then run.
No. What he keeps doing is announcing that he's going to win the marathon, setting a record time, in cheaper shoes that perform better then the best from Nike, Asics or Adidas.
So if you were a gay man suddenly outed - even a rich assed one - would be blase about it if you were in a country that funded 911, is virulently anti-gay, and chops people's heads off for sorcery?"
Thiel's orientation was well known in his circles and Silicon Valley. It's naive to think that no one among the Saudi authorities had a clue, especially since he'd met with members of the royal family. And he continued to visit the kingdom even after being "outed". That's not what one would expect of someone afraid of being imprisoned, tortured or executed
"Kind of like how we're all perfectly happy with 5 year old CPUs now"
Who the fuck is "we"? I'm happy with my 4 yr old video card but am looking to upgrade my CPU and double my RAM. Quicker SSD wouldn't hurt but the one in my main machine is pretty good
Musk is a South African. He just lives in America.
The circumstances of Elon's life makes for very convenient denigration. He's a racist South African at times, a communist Canadian at others and an overbearing, blinkered American when it suits
The only reason Trump won is because Democrats underestimated the raw hatred people have of Hillary. I am a liberal and I can't stand her. She stands for nothing but power for herself.
Democratic leadership is just as corrupt and incompetent as Republican.
I would have preferred Sanders but the fact is that Clinton got many more votes. Someone figured out a way to score a strategic win. Trump didn't think that up - he doesn't have the brains. Conway might have been cunning enough but the likely strategist is Manafort. Or perhaps someone closer to Putin.
"fossil-fuel plants with carbon-capture technology"
Which plants like that have been built or are in operation? How efficient are they? I've heard of one project where CCS consumed ~25% of total plant power. Coalwashing may soon put greenwashing to shame.
Trump's not a politician. He's never held elected office in his life and after leaving office never will again. Contrast to Obama or Hillary or Bernie Sanders, people who never had straight jobs in their lives.
What do you mean by "straight job"? The only boss Trump has ever had was his dad who regularly bailed him out. He's done a great job of filling out a suit and promoting himself on TV. He talks about all the great buildings he's built but most were built by other people and Trump likely doesn't know the 1st thing about how to truly construct a building. Years ago, I worked for a millionaire who did construction & home renos and looked good in a suit - but he knew most of the trades to a high level of expertise and was a good draughtsman. Trump can barely scratch out a legible signature.
Bullshit. He's not a Saudi citizen and unless he's caught in Riyadh cocksmoking a young buff Arab, they have no legal grounds.
This is the country that thinks nothing of kidnapping a sitting prime minister of another country and forcing him to read a pre-written confession. If you were gay in the head-chopping capital of the word, you'd be shitting your pants if you got outed no matter how many billions you had, or how chummy Tim Cook is with some of the royals.
I'm aware of that bit of extreme weirdness involving Saudi Arabia & the PM of Lebanon. It's curious that Hariri is a dual Saudi-Lebanese citizen. But the Saudis consider themselves to be the power in the region, a title that only Iran has the power to dispute on an equal footing. And the only Middle East nation whose leader gets to hold hands and play kissy-face with the POTUS.
They're not going to jeopardize that relationship just because they're offended that a very wealthy American who's willing to do business with them and is uncritical of their faith & politics and has political connections but prefers to go in through the out door.
The same reason you'd travel to China if you were looking to manufacture something cheap on the fly. Or you went to Laos or the Philippines if you want clothing made. This isn't rocket surgery by any stretch of the imagination and if you have capital to be rolling into a country, they're far more likely to "ignore what they consider harmful or illegal" then one of their own citizens which would end up with them being executed.
Then the prextext that Gawker nearly got him killed as I've already stated, is & was bullshit
Not to worry, Trump will reward Hughes by appointing him head of NASA
