  1. I'm sorry. This is nothing but a money grab. on US House Rejects Telecom Amnesty · · Score: 1

Those companies that complied with the request for information did so because it was not an unreasonable request for a Government to make in a time of war. And specifically who was harmed? Who was improperly charged as a result of the requested info? We do know that info gathered in this fashion has helped prevent attacks and tracked terrorists. At least we are getting something for this trade off.

The house dems did this only because they get a lot of money from trial lawyers who hope to take billions of dollars from these companies who were only behaving in a patriotic manner. They don't care about your rights. Make no mistake, there will be some issue that comes down the pike that will give them the excuse to throw you guys under the bus and sign away your "rights" and you will get nothing for it but a bill to pay. More than likely, it will be for the "children."

I'm saddened that so many here are willing to cut off their nose to spite their face.

  2. Too little too late... on 3Com Drops Internet Appliances · · Score: 1

My brother and I acutally bought an Audry for my grandparents so they could easily get around the web and have email (we tried giving them an old computer but they couldn't make heads or tails of it). Audry was a nice little device for what it is, unfortunately what it is is not that much. It seems as if it's specs were frozen in 1994. It's screen is 640x480 with 156 colors and it's WAY underpowered (changing from the web browser to email boggs it down).

  3. What are the roadblocks to a real Distributed OS? on Distributed Operating Systems? · · Score: 1

It was my impression from college that the main issues were complexity and the fact that it would be expected to span several different hardware architecutes, (meaning the memory manager is on a sparc, the scheduler is on a intel box, etc..) Are there any others?

  4. Innovation and Playability dead? on IBM and Nintendo Partner on Dolphin · · Score: 1

Funny.... Super Smash Bros. came out after Zelda... it's innovative and insanely playable. Perfect Dark (psudo sequel to GoldenEye) will have real time ray tracing for lighting effects on a machine about as powerful as a p100 with a Voodoo1 and it will come out after Zelda... Heck, Capcom (actually Angel Studios) figured out how to squeeze RE2 onto a cart improve the visuals and still keep the cinemas! (but then Capcom isn't known for innovation... renovation yes, but not innovation..)

  5. all-in-one "must" happen on IBM and Nintendo Partner on Dolphin · · Score: 1

Given the fact that all three Next-Gen systems will eventually have the ability to play DVD movies (it's a planned add on to Dreamcast), to hook up to the internet, and be capable gaming platforms...it's no longer a question. It's going to happen by default.
