Exactly! Looking a the Sahara today and saying it was always like that in the past would be at best an error. At one point, what we now call the Sahara Desert was covered with abundant life, both plant and animal. Continental drift and climate change has ensured that the surface of Earth is always changing. The same applies to Mars, saying that the surface of Mars has always been as it is today is very not correct.
Many of the murders I hear about on the news go something like this "And little 12 year old Jimmy got his Dad's gun and shot the old man on the porch across the street because he wanted to take his new TV."
Most of the murders that happen around here are from adults not keeping their fire arms safe and locked up. If adults cant keep the guns in a place where irresponsible people will wont get them then those adults should not have any guns.
More, most kids killed in gun violence are killed from accidental self inflicted gunshots by getting to their parents guns when they should not. Having guns in a place with a buncha children is a bad idea.
This is the basic stuff we all started with at some point in our Linux server lives. Good on you for making the jump from Windows to Linux. It can be a big change from the hand-holding Microsoft has forced on you, but keep at it and you will find a whole new powerful world of computing open up to you. If its from the power of regular expressions in VIM and Grep or the simplicity of LVM and everything in between, you will find your Linux experience will open your eyes to a whole new world you never knew existed.
If Linux is to gain market share then mom and pop nee to be able to buy a laptop with it preloaded. Most people will not go out there buy a windows computer, download and install linux on it just to get linux. Only us nerds do that.
Some conversations should be private because of the feelings and emotions that can arise from having them made public. The idea that every aspect of all our lives should be open to the entire world seems silly. Sadly anything you put on the internet can and most likely will be made public either through people leaking it, the laws demanding it or lacked IT security letting it slip through the cracks. It is important to teach our kids that what they say online will last forever and will follow them for the rest of their lives.
I heard William Shatner singing RocketMan on youtube.

Valve started making steam for Linux over a year ago, they kept it to themselves until it was almost ready.

New pacemakers are wifi enabled. People can now hack them and turn them off.
and if the attacker has a gun she could be killed from a distance before she even knew there was a bad guy out to get her...

Dell did a lot of work to make sure drivers were solid. Its not cheap to make a laptop have a perfect out of the box experience.
lol... I think you are correct on that one. :D

Wow, what flavor of Linux were you using in 1994?
Nvidia released new Linux graphics drivers that give a 20% boost over their windows graphics drivers. Lets hope ATI does the same!

Hmm... How much ram does it have? If it is having to do a lot of paging to the disk due to lack of memory then I could see that causing thrashing..
What about Crossover has made you unhappy? I am new to Crossover and do not know much about it.
You win points for father of the year there! Good man with all the Debian and gaming around. :D
