Not letting an AC have a first post doesn't really sound like censorship....they can still say whatever they want. Not only that, they have the option of getting an account any time they like. It's even free.
Booting a person for what they say...well...that is censorship.
As for moderation...well...moderation on usenet is basically canceling posts. Is that censorship? Without that "censorship", alot of groups would be like the *.alt groups many of which are so full of spam they are practically worthless.
I'll drop this issue here...but I'd have a hard time defending "First Post!" messages with a straight face. To each his own.
How about just not allowing AC's to even HAVE a first post? It's really not that much of a penalty to someone with no account, as a person WITH an account usually has a posting up in 2 minutes anyways.
And THEN people WITH accounts who insist on doing the "first post" thing....well...kick them out....or at least kick them somewhere.
All you need is an old mechanically fuel injected diesel engine....no electronics required...lug one of these around. Your vehicle would be one of very very few that couldn't be really affected.
Speaking of getting facts straight, why are you calling him "WinTel Boy"? He never mentioned what OS he ran (You know....the "Win" part of that)? For all you know he runs Linux or FreeBSD and gets plenty of "serious work" done. (Heck...some people even get work done with Windows believe it or not) And a "drone"? Do you really know Mr. Anonymous Coward that well to make that accusation?
Well....as much as I'd like to throw some baseless put-downs back at you for your choice of architecture/OS, I'll just sit here and Think Different. (TM)
You said: Everytime you take libertarians to task over privacy issues, they call you a Nazi. Fact is they probably never carried a M-16 in defense of the country; so go figure....
Sounds odd..... Wasn't Jesse Ventura a former Navy seal? I am pretty sure he carried a few M-16's in his time...and I am not a fan of controls on crypto, but no one's ever called me a Nazi for it either.
Actually, if I recall, China is gearing up to send some people into space in the near future. I think they even had some Russian help in it, but I don't recall all of the details of the article.
Either way...if it can make some of the higher ups a little edgy about the thought of it, you might be right.
Hrm....this is a rather harsh reply to Katz's view here. I think anyone with any common sense and decency cares about what happened to the people in Columbine...however, any of those people make a concious decision to watch that show. No one would force them or their families to see or hear about it. Canning the show definitly was the extreme reaction...perhaps airing some form or warning before hand would have been a compromise for all sides?
Seriously....if you don't like what's on TV...don't watch it. The networks don't have a gun to your head on this one...no one's making you do it. Free countries are pretty cool in that way.

Ok...I am definitly going even further off topic here, but....

And here begins my rant:
Well...with a sig like that it would seem rather hypocritical to tell others to keep all of their faiths out of your news.
As much as I'd like to vent on this subject....I'll shut up now.
