Hate to say it but if you have an unsecured wireless network you are freely broadcasting your data over the airwaves for anyone to listen. Laws are not the solution to this, proper security is. I can't walk out on my porch and yell sensitive information then fine you for having heard it.

Does it really matter? He knowingly hacked the US Pentagon which is a breach of US national security. Anyone knows getting caught doing something like this carries consequences. Do I believe the consequences should be adjusted to fit the crime? Yes. Do I believe it's unreasonable for him to face consequences in the US for a crime committed against the US? No.

When did we claim that we were limited to using profanity? I don't see swearing as an indication of one's vocabulary, merely a style of speech. Now calm the fuck down!

Actually in many modern vehicles the entertainment system IS on the same CAN-BUS network as the ECU and other components. I have a 2005 Dodge pickup where this is the case, I installed an upgraded touchscreen MyGIG OEM radio I picked up for dirt cheap which though it was not offered for my year is able to work since I have the same speed CAN-BUS. However the radio expects to get a clock signal from the ECU which is not something my year is programmed for so there is no way to get the clock on the radio working.

What they need to do is what we did in Maine with the power utility a few years back. CMP had a stranglehold on everyone and the government stepped in and told them they could either own the lines and delivery or the generation. CMP now services and owns the power delivery infrastructure and any company can pay them to use their lines giving people choices in who to buy their power from.

Summary: Content providers and telcos should either own the lines or the content, not both. Ideally whoever owns the lines going to my house is only concerned with maintaining and upgrading that infrastructure and I can buy my internet service from a number of providers over that infrastructure.

A DS even lets you play local MP3 files.

You just blew my mind. I've had a Nintendo DS for several years without this ability ... in fact, I don't even thing there's a way to store data of that size on my DS. What on earth are you talking about?

Something like an R4 card or similar allows you to run homebrew software and play media from a microSD card (as well as more dubious things).
