Its too expensive too keep innovating for most companies but to patent and milk money over even the most obvious parts of their previous innovations is a cheap way to keep their older stuff exclusive. Many companies make most of their money off of liscensing rather than innovating. Its easier to say, "this is all mine" than "hey lets get our R&D dep. together and try to do this".
Looks cool, but won't catch on...

This actually looks pretty cool. OO in Perl is certainly do-able, it just doesn't seem very instinctive. I use Perl a lot for scripting stuff cause its just so easy to get things done quickly. This would have that strength plus a solid OO vibe to it. Definitely neat. I really don't think this is going to catch on very stongly though cause people like to play it safe with languages they know. Especially Perl programmers. If it matured though, I would definitely give it a try. Needs some libraries written for it.
As long as they keep making those books, I'll still love that company. When I have no idea about a particular subject I dive into one of those books to get a strong feel for it before I move onto the more advanced stuff. And for Perl stuff I havent' found many better books at all.
"Progamming is about what you write, not how you do it." That is a false statement flat out. I would like to see you get hired by saying that in an interview. One thing IDEs will never teach or reinforce is how to properly document/comment code which almost just as important as the code itself. You can write all the crafty algorithms you want but if no one can understand/read it, then it is worthless to anyone but you because it can't be maintained.
What are you talking about???!!

He was simply trying to help everyone that can't get on the other server. Some of the people here like you take this moderation crap way too seriously. Get a life!!! Don't bite the hand that feeds you!!! That was the most useful post here because you can't get on the site!!
If you really believe that what you are preaching is right and in the full name of God then give me your address so I can come and kill you so you can get to heaven faster. If you don't I'll assume you're just joking. On a more serious note, I am christian and while I am not a zealot for the religion I am knowledgable enough to know when certain people have been brainwashed into thinking crap. I've seen this happen so many times with christianity and honestly it makes me sick.
Actually that wasting the seed stuff is baloney. Even if a person didn't masturbate the he would still experience what is known as a nocturnal emission or "wet dream" which is natural way for the body to get rid of excess "seed" while it is sleeping possible against a persons will. Is this natural biological act the work of Satan? I think not. Sorry.
I can't believe people are marking this post as a troll when it actually is a good informative post. So he is a little biased and angry--so what?!! This is one of the few posts that bring a little "reality" to this whole IE vs Netscape vs Mozilla thing.
Honestly, who cares, just don't read it. I really like slashdot because it keeps me up on a lot of stuff but this whole rating system thing is for shit. I'm not trying to flame here but other people judging the validity and insightfulness of my post? Who cares? Actually I could make the same argument. I'm stuck looking at some post that some "moderator" thought was funny and I think is a complete waste of hard-drive space. Maybe I just don't fully understand the usefullness or need for this rating system but it all seems really juvenile.

I'm not sure exactly what that will do? Give them a bogus file that's empty?
