That tears it, I am moving back home. You are welcome to join me, Norway is still free (nothing like this could EVER happen, the voice of the people is strong and does not stand for stuff like this). And our air is cleaner (and our women prettier;p ).
My MP voted for the bill (he is Labour). I wrote him a stern letter. Fucking prick. How does this sound:
Dear Doug Naysmith,
I am writing to say I am shocked and appalled at your vote in favour of
the Digital Economy Bill. In a city as liberal and free thinking as
ours, I had hoped you would see how over-authoritarian and privacy
invading this bill is. In these times when our rights diminish by the
day, the last thing we needed was more Big Brother tactics, more
surveillance, more invasion of privacy. I ask you, Dr. Naysmith, how
will you be able to tell whether someone in my house is guilty of
copyright infringement, or whether someone else is using my connection
without my permission? I can only assume that you would ignore evidence
and simply proceed with punishment. No trial, no investigation, guilty
by association without chance of proving innocent.
Perhaps you did not think much over it. Perhaps you are just doing the
bidding of your party. To that I can only shake my head in disapproval
and disappointment. If you are too spineless to stand up to tyranny
then you do not belong in government.
I assure you, you have lost the vote of me and everyone in my household
as a result. I am also considering leaving the country for good, before
it destroys itself with more politics like this.
If we do not stand up to tyranny, it will take over. It has happened
before and it will happen again. If/when it does, know that you are
partially to blame.
Yours sincerely,
[my name]
I have embarrassing memories of showing off my "gun knowledge" after playing Goldeneye 64, and commenting on movies to my dad how SWAT type police officers tend to use D5K Deutsch'es, and Russian soldiers seem to exclusively use KF7 Soviet rifles...the shame...
It seems that way, because they learn a defensive, safe driving technique at first, in order to pass the driving test. After that it degenerates into what you describe, or rather, them attempting to do aforementioned manoeuvres, and then end up crashing after physics gives them a reality-check bitch-slap.
I would say it depends very much on the game in question. God help us if a bunch of kids learned their driving skills from Need for Speed Underground series....
Play Gran Turismo, inside cab view, with a steering wheel, pedals and a shifter, then were talking actual training.
If you are in the UK you don't need to worry about warranty; I have recently discovered the Sale of Goods Act, which means with or without warranty they would have to replace it because it is less than 6 years old.
Had mine since april 2008. Havent applied the update yet (I always wait a few weeks just in case there are issues like now).
I DID have the clock problem, but it was just that: the clock was wrong. I could still get on the PSN.
My console did have a weird problem once, that the HDMI port broke (I think my ebuyer's-own brand tv shocked it, cuz it was the same time the tv itself broke). I phoned up Sony and after 5 mins of basic Q&A they told me to bring the console to work the next day, and someone would show up and give me a new one. I was impressed at such great service; kudos to Sony.
In other news, Born on the Fourth of July 2: Born on the 5th of July is promised to be even more fourth-of-july'y, says director Oliver Stone. A dangerously insane human being.
...or did Independence Day (the first one) randomly reappear in the past few months?
It came out when I was about 10, and it was the coolest movie* everyone had to see. I saw it when it came out on VHS to rent (my parents wouldn't take me to see it). Then it disappeared. I often wondered about it, especially the last few years after I found my model F/A-18 Hornet from the movie, complete with destructible parts. It was as if it never existed. It suddenly made a re-appearance on a Will Smith box set (*shudder*) at Sainsbury's. Now this. What happened? It was a bad movie (admittedly) then, and nothing's changed....
*Unrelated note: Does anyone else's Firefox spellchecker not recognise the word "movie"? Weird..
What about those of us who don't use Bit Torrent? Say, a different way of pirating that does not involve uploading/sharing/distributing? Are we still ok?
Good luck getting any kind of accuracy out at that range from a handgun round (even out of a long barrel). The number you quoted is more of a "randomly fired shots can still kill you this far away" than "you can hit a target this far away"--ie, why discharging firearms into the air is a bad idea.
This is the point I was trying to make. I know it is possible to hit, as the rounds are still travelling, albeit at an increasingly slower rate, and eventually dropping in altitude. But from watching killcams I see guys using UMPs with (supposedly).45 subsonic rounds, hitting me from across the whole map (me being a speck on the horizon) with a 3 round burst...
Well, there is a reason we play games (or simulators, as is a more apt word) rather than do the real thing. It is for those reasons you list. I agree a game so realistic that you could only play it until you were killed would be boring and pointless.
Whenever he and I disagree on whether something is good in a game (example: CoD 4's hardcore mode), he'll usually defend it on the basis of "it's more realistic". My point to him, every time, is so what? It's not fun, and the goal isn't to be realistic, it's to be fun.
Is your opinion, but maybe not his. I don't mind the frustration of one-hit-kill in the beginning of a game when I am getting used to it, because as I get better at the game, I enjoy the realism. I finally threw away MW2 after hitting someone 3 times with a Barrett.50 cal and them walking away from it. That annoys me more than anything.
Just because you don't like realism doesn't mean other people don't, it is a difference of opinion in what makes a good game.
Depends what game you are playing. But the very nature of FPS means you can't really have "the real thing". Well, you could go train to be a special forces soldier, but that kind of means you give up everything else in your life just to experience real(istic) combat. The next best thing is a decent FPS. MW2 is not one of those. A direct hit with a decent-sized bullet should knock you down, and make you bleed to death quickly, unless it hit you in a vital place whenby you would die instantly. I could go on, but you get the idea.
Personally, when I play a game like an FPS, I want realism. By that I mean good graphics, physics, sound, etc. Others argue that "graphics dont make a game good" etc. I agree that good graphics alone don't make a game good, but to me, they are an essential part. Playing Sonic the Hedgehog is different than an FPS. Nothing is meant to be real, so realism isn't an issue. But when I want realistic online warfare, I want just that, realism.
Silly me, I actually got MW2 thinking it would be a realistic tactical shooter. I was deeply disappointed (especially since MW1 touched on it quite nicely).
Dual-wielding sawn-off shotguns, firing grenades at a conflict area having only your team mates survive and the structures intact, submachineguns accurate to over a mile....It is more like a Die Hard film (where I am a bad guy..). And i got the game for PC, so I can't even trade it in.
I love playing Bad Company 2. Although I struggle with it, I find it much more enjoyable. Graphics are decent (but not dazzling, I admit) but the sound is incredible; gunfire changes pitch/tone when heard from further away, the crack and hiss of a sniper shot that just missed your head...I actually get startled, my blood pumps, adrenaline rushes! The game is not without its faults, I have used a high powered sniper rifle and hit an opponent three times without going down (though this may be related to lag). Still, for those after realism, a much better game.
Amusing, but also sheds some light on the misinformation that spread after the war ended. I am not that old, and even I grew up in Norway being taught that the Americans came to our aide, saved us from torment, and got us back on our feet. The Marshall Plan was useful yes, but why did America go to war? Was it to aide his fellow man, or because after years of war in Europe they finally felt threatened?
Depending on what you consider "the end of the war", it would be just as fair (if not more) to say that the Soviet evil empire liberated Europe. They invaded Berlin and soon after the Reich fell. Nobody taught me that in school. Maybe because of the rape and murder spree that occurred in Berlin after its fall, due to inebriated Russian soldiers. Maybe because of the cold war that ensued.
Entrapment happens all the time, and cops get away with it.
What do you call it when an undercover police woman dresses as a hooker and busts anyone who solicits?
I also had a friend who was a bit of a speeder, and a car seemed to challenge him at a red light. When he shot off, the undercover cop car threw its lights on and pulled him over. What would you call that?

Which is why I don't like cats. They are so arrogant.
I think by "genocidal grammaticist" he was trying to say "grammar nazi". It's overkill, but I'm just sayin'..

These guys seem to put it pretty much black and white, especially with electronics/electrical goods.

Shouldnt that be "flap flap flap"..?
Sorry..
But then, Lord Kelvin said "Heavier than air flying machines are impossible".
Guns don't kill people.
I kill people.
Enemy of the state wasnt too bad, i guess, right?
