Doesn't that sort of rule invalidate any comments about MS products from Linux power users?

Most Linux power users have had a lot of experience working with MS products, and many still have to use them (because of their job or what have you). The opposite is not true. I myself was responsible for introducing a hard-core MCSE (if such a thing exists) to Linux, sometime in late 1999/early 2000; he had never seen a Linux box before.

I think this is a good time to start thinking about getting rid of .{com, net, org, edu, gov, dot, etc}, and go with country-code TLDs exclusively (and move the current domains into their respective .[a-z][a-z]). It's bad enough that one country gets to virtually monopolize some of these domains (.edu and .gov, for example), it gets only worse by giving a single corporation complete control over the "generic" .com domain. It'd be (slightly) more acceptable if it were something like .com.us (which, obviously, doesn't exist).

It used to be this way I think, but New York City now has a new area code, 646. I think other places have codes that break that rule.

It's not just NYC. Philly has two overlay area codes, 267 and 484, on top of 215 and 610, respectively. The Montréal suburbs have area code 450 (IIRC). Northeastern PA is 570. Puerto Rico is 787. And there are many other examples.

None of them (incl. NYC) are breaking any rules. The "2nd-digit-is-either-1-or-0" rule was lifted quite a while ago. Area codes used to be of the form MNX, where M == [2-9], N == {0,1}, and X == [0-9]. Nowadays, they are of the form MXX (M == [2-9], X == [0-9]). Simply put, area codes MUST start with a digit greater than 2.

Exactly. Sega originally released the SMS in three different configurations, actually:

    • Sega Base System: 2 controllers, no gun; included the Hang On/Astro Warrior combo cartridge.
    • Sega Master System: 2 controllers plus gun; included Hang On/Safari Hunt combo cartridge. After a while (~2 years?), some of these came with the Hang On/Astro Warrior cartridge, probably by mistake (it happened to a friend of mine).
    • Sega 3D System: 2 controllers, gun, and 3D LCD-shutter glasses that plugged into the card slot (?). Came with some 3D game that I can't recall at the moment (Zaxxon?)

  22. Re:Amateur Radio Satellites on Trying to Save Iridium · · Score: 1

Amateur Radio satellites are perhaps the greatest experiment ever achieved by civilians without recurring to government funding. Currently, there are about 9 OSCAR satellites ('OSCAR' meaning 'Orbiting Satellite Carrying Amateur Radio') and 15 MicroSats. Most of these got into space by being piggy-backed into some rocket as a secondary payload during the launch of something larger (like a weather satellite), making the cost rather low.

AMSAT has a new satellite, the Phase 3D, which is scheduled for launch on an Ariane in July. The funding for the launch came from donations by radio amateurs (making it look like PBS), organisations like the American Radio Relay League, and other sources. Being a larger satellite, the Phase 3D has to be launched individually, raising the cost to what is now considered average. The fact that Phase 3D is going to space this summer should be used as a standard.

This is only theory. I hope this is how Nutscrape actually works. If it doesn't, screw Nutscrape.
