Hey, Rob, at least the name sounds better than what it was before; one was never completely sure if it was 'Hardware Canada Computing' or 'Hardware Computing Canada.' And it makes somewaht more sense than what 'SGI' stands for now.

Well, the problem I see with using 10-inch disks is that they'd be fscking big. One of the advantages of CD's that won them the throne once occupied by vinyl LP's is the size. That's also the reason why laserdiscs weren't very popular (12-inch double sized monsters). Besides being costlier, people prefer smaller thingees.

The reason why the article says the Dreamcast will be able to run WinCE games is because the Dreamcast is a WinCE machine. The basic differences are that the OS is slightly modified for the hardware and it uses DirectX (if I remember correctly, although I could be wrong abou that). This info has been around for quite a while now, so it surprises me that some /.'ers don't know about it yet.

About having the kernel in ROM, Tandy already did that. Many Tandy 1000's had MessDOS and DeskMate in a ROM that emulated a filesystem (it appeared as drive D:). Those machines booted fscking fast, but upgrading the OS was a chore.
