    But it's not guaranteed.

    E*Trade does first come first serve.

    If you got The Letter, then if you replied you were guaranteed shares (in most cases, some countries they could only take a max of for example 100 investors).

    My step-mom worked at Compaq, so I'm sure she's right..

    I don't recall what she said about the BIOS, but Compaq DID reverse engineer MS-DOS do create Compaq DOS, and they used those clean room principles. I would bet that they also reverse engineered the BIOS, but I'm not sure..

    Don't forget that SR for PC had Dolby Surround (pre-mixed instruments in the s3m (I think it was s3m?) and the GUS mixing fubar'd it, but a SBP it worked fine.. finally a bragging point for the ol SBP, eh?) !

    Man o man.. they had some cool stuff. Them and .. who made Amnesia demo?? darn, can't recall.. the guys who did the Amnesia demo made a cool game for Epic called Zone 66..

    My step-grandfather was FIDO at NASA during the time (Forget whether he was blue or gold, but I recall he wasn't on duty at the launch, it wasn't his shift, so..)

    Sure it easilly allows buffer overflows - but avoiding those is as simple as making sure you never overflow the bufffer! It might add a few hundred cycles here and there to do the range checking etc, but still..

    ..is the compression used to stuff more data down that dinky analog pipe! Anyone who played games over the modem in the 14.4 days will remember that turning off compression etc would speed things up.

    This is due to the fact that for it to compress, it first has to get X amount of data or give up waiting and throw in a bunch of junk filler. Now, I'm sure the timeout is quite small - but it's not small enough to not affect gameplay.

    This might be what it does, turns off the modem's compression. Might also disable MS's PPP compression stuff, as this would have some of the same effect..

    QT4 works fine under NT4 Wks/SP5 where I work..
    All the speed/quality enhancement stuff on..

    PII/300, 128MB SDRAM, G200, Yamaha XG50 or somesuch.. for what it matters :)

    Nah, all the big corps will just give the Univ's etc $$ and the students have to sign away all their work to the corps..

    Students get their PhD's but can't use them at their new job unless it's with the big corp.. great huh?
