Look at your watch: see the gray background? now press the EL button. See how the light goes through the parts of the 1 that aren't lit up? That's because it's clear. Although someone brought up an excellent point, that that clearness is partially obscured by the tiny transistors and circuits. But other than that, I'm pretty sure it's clear.
