I was under the assumption that the big problem with macs supporting pc video cards was bios vs EFI. Will this move allow quicker adaptation of video cards to move to the mac? I would assume that if they start using UEFI just like apple does now, that it would just be a OS X driver issue, and no longer a bios vs EFI issue.
Think of it this way. we all have a lawn. I like to sit in my lawn, read the paper, watch some TV outside, play in my lawn, etc. The problem is, my lawn is kinda big. So do i take 4 hours a week, every week to keep it up? Or just pay the neighbors kids to mow my lawn? For someone who is scrapeing by on paycheck to paycheck, it might not be an option to pay a kid 20 bucks for 4 hours to mow their lawn. But If you have alot of income and are willing, why not. Get the enjoyment of the lawn, without the trouble of maintaining it. Would anyone say that i don't deserver my lawn, because i didn't do all the work to get it like it is? Where as some put hours and hours to get their lawn looking nice, i just put money. In my opinion, the same can be said for MMORPGs. I take zero joy in the farming of worthless things so that i can buy a sword. The money is almost nothing to me , i spend more in coffee in a month (starbucks owns my soul:D )
What you have to ask is this: Is your time more valuable than what they are chargeing for the gold? I play wow, and i havn't bought gold, but i don't think its that big a deal. Say you want to buy a epic mount (around 1000 gold) As a casual player, it could take months of playing to get that type of money, unless you spend your day grinding for gold. The other option is to put down 80 bucks, and 10 min later you have 1000g in your mailbox. To some that is not worth the 80 bucks. But i don't think its worth it to spend 80 bucks a month for movie channels when basic cable is ok for me. It all comes down to how much you enjoy the game, and how much you feel your time in that game is worth.
I play MMORPGS almost exclusivly now, and i feel they save me a great deal of money. I use to spend 50-100 bucks a month buying PC and xbox games, winning them, and then putting them on the shelf. Now i put down 14 bucks a month, and thats about it. The system requirments are not that high, so i don't have to upgrade my video card every 6 months to play a game. I figure playing WoW and EQ before it saved me thousands of dollars in games and upgrades. So spending 80 bucks on gold...not that big a deal to me.
Also keep in mind, that buying online property is going to be a Huge market estimated to grow to be in the billions. Sony is already supporting online servers that allow people to buy and sell items to eachother. Xbox live allows you to buy online property for your games and gamertags. sony will probalby do the same with the ps3, and you are going to have to pay for the revolutions older games from the nintendo generations.
i live in the northern ohio area, and there was a crazy demand for gas. there were fist fights breaking out at the stations when people were accused of cutting in line. they had to block off the exit to the road, to stop more cars from coming down them. it was crazy. also, i have seen on the news, that alot of our gas station owners are now under arrest for price raising and contributing to the public panic. this is not a rumor, i saw this myself.
i agree that roboteck is a classic! a little trivia for you. did you know that the first 3 chapters in japan were actually 3 seperate cartoons. only the original we called macross. then when the broght them over here, they combined the 3 shows. it would be like us combinding thundercats, heman, and gi-goe,and selling itas one series. luckly they all were close enought that the story came out good. i read that in an artical with the creators. pretty cool info.
i would highly recommend it. the GN are great. there is much more of a story to them. The Great tokyo empire was setup after akira destroyed neo tokyo. Tetsuo sets akira up as a god/savior and he has people worship akira. Kanada is "killed" when akira destroys tokyo again. but he comes back later when tetsuo kicks the drug habbit and fully awakens. the good old USA gets involved and brings in there laser cannon satalight. and you learn much more about akira's past and what he as truly become. you will understand the movie more if you have read the books.
actually, in the book. tetsuo does get a mechanical arm. when the is in the "great tokyo empire" he as a mechanical arm. it is only later, when he is appoaching his true power lvls that he is able to re-grow his arm. this happens in issue 34 or 33. not sure. but he looses his arm in 11/12. and he is not in the comic till issure 16 i think. and in 18 or 19 they show that he has the mechanical arm.
also, then ending of the movie, is very close to the ending of the comic, they just kinda skip the whole "great empire" story. but the message is the same. kinda:)
Well i have been a fan of Akira since a 5 min preview was shown on MTV in the 80s as a teaser for anime. I went out and started collecting the comics soon after. The comics, btw, are much different and much better. The reason i feel alot of people don't get akira is that it is a thinking anime. by this i meen that you have to really think about what is going on to get the movie. alot of animes are like this, but they usally throw in some cool robot fights to please everyone. Now i am not saying some people are stupid for not getting it. it is just some people look deaper into movies than other people.
Akira is about evolution and the human potential. i have seen the move 100s of times, and every time i have to explain it to people as to what is going on. the first time i saw it i thought "what the heck is this!" but after i saw it a few times, i realize what was trying to be said. it is the same with Evangelion, Ghost in the Shell, and many other Animes, you can watch them for what is on the screen, or you can look into the story they are trying to tell you. you will take much more out of the movie if you really think about what they are about.
And on a side note, does anyone know when Evangelion "Death and Rebirth" the movie is comeing out on DVD? i heard soon.
Has anyone seen the computers offered by Xybernaut? they are wearable computers. granted they are still a little ugly, but you can see where they are going in a few years. http://www.xybernaut.com for more info
