I understand your immediate reaction to this person's.sig, but ultimately I like his/her (ok, it's probably his) straightforward honesty.
I have a TV, but 2/3 of the screen is purple, 1/4 is green, the arial is a coathanger, and I rarely watch it. I too am arrogant, pretentious, self-righteous, anti-social and elitist. What other way is there to be? Admit to being average, or normal? Hey, life is too short... be eccentric, enjoy yourself.
But everyone canuse it in all circumstances, you just can't appropriate it.
Seems fair to me. Though I'm not a US tax payer, so I suppose my opinion doesn't really count... though I suppose I pay the US Imperialist Stealth Tax in other ways....
Sure this appeals to a limited subset of Slashdot readers, but then so does everything.
Of course in 2 months this will be out of date. But at any one time, there are some people looking to get decent hardware. So this serves those people looking right now. They're not about to upgrade in 2 months time just because something better is out (well, not all of them anyway...).
Me? I'll keep my trusty 486 for my firewall, my Sun Sparcstation IPXs for network services and my 850MHz (o.c.'d from 550) Athlon for fragging.
Why not do yourself and the community a favour and create Debian packages of the software you are installing from source? Then make them available on your web page, or as an apt source? Even better, become an official Debian package maintainer?
That's what I'd do if I still built stuff from source. But I don't have the time for that anymore. Hopefully I will sometime soon.

Godlike powers, no? Are people who distribute materials via the web to be treated as Omnipresent? What's next?
There can be no such thing as 'pure capitalism' if by that you mean a truly free market.
Specifically, under a free market, individuals (in a truly free market there can be no other legal entity) are always free to make private agreements, or pacts. Those pacts, taken to their logical conclusion, lead, in effect, to government in the favour of the pact-making parites. Power begets power. Herein lies the problem with 'libertarianism', if I read it correctly.
Java is not just used for client-side web programming.
I'd imagine these corporates of which we speak are using it for server processes, to retain platform independence should the platform require changing.
They don't care that users will not bother to download another JVM after giving up on Microsofts. That is an issue, a different one.
Firstly, I did not attend 'public' school. Secondly, I am not arrogant, I am merely correct. Please consult the Oxford English Dictionary at your leisure.
As an interesting point of discourse, note that the rule 'i before e except after c' does not apply to the word "leisure". There are rules and there are exceptions.
Try having a look at the Oxford English Dictionary; unfortunately its not available online unless you pay. It states that: + "its" is the possessive form of "it" + "it's" is an abbreviation for "it is" However, "it's" may also be written "its". Moderators, please remove the points rashly assigned to the parent post; it is firstly offtopic and secondly wrong; unfortunately I am probably too late.
Not that I'm a fan of the BSD-style licenses, but Linux isn't the only Free OS out there: *BSD
And OpenDOS of course.

By the way, I hope you didn't get another IBM drive because they seem to be pretty flakey. Make sure you have a good backup.

Also, you are meant to check your links.
None of your goddamn links work!

Indeed, I was mistaken.

Voila: 0, Funny.
Is that clear?

And yet Cornwall spawned the Aphex Twin.
What a strange world.

Dolby should be making their money from the studio recording equipment. They sell a lot of stuff to the recording industry.
But I thought we were trying to destroy the recording industry...
At least I was...

You're both right; wav IS PCM audio.

That would be the MNG format, a branch of PNG.
