  1. Re:Poor Digital:Convergence on Slashback: Quakery, Lifespans, Barcodes · · Score: 1

I don't blame the engineers for putting a backdoor into the product, but if I was their boss I'd definitely blame them for not taking it out before the product shipped.

On the other hand, a lot of the /. comments about them are so overwhelmingly negative that I have started to feel pity for them. Here they are, giving out free proprietary barcode scanners that are easily converted to free normal keyboard-wedge-type barcode scanners and people are posting things along the lines of "digitalconvergence suxx!!!". It's not like the Slashdotters need to cut them any slack, but can't people at least try to be a little polite?

"Spamming investment boards" with anti-D:C writings worded in an inflammatory manner? That's pretty immature, IMHO. The way you're going about this reflects poorly on yourself and the open source community. If you would stick to the facts, that would help.

Christianity has many "mystical" elements, such as the virgin birth, the resurrection, and the holy trinity, among others. It's perfectly reasonable to lump Christianity in with other mystic religions--the main distinction is that it's much more popular than most. Therefore, you don't break the trend; you support it. Don't you feel better now?

    From their resellers' page:

**License agreements with coupon and stock options for each copy of Flash Vos Super O/S ordered.

How does this work, considering that they're not a publicly traded company? Apparently, like Travelzoo.com, this shows that they will probably never be publicly traded. I also like how they explicitly allow the reseller to pass the stock option on to the consumer. Isn't there a limit on the number of shareholders of a privately-held company in Texas? I thought it was something like 100 or so.

This, however, is a major problem if they are incorporated in Texas, because they are required to set the number of stock shares at time of incorporation. That means, if for some reason their product becomes spectularly popular, they will have to stop honoring the stock option coupons, or start buying back shares that were previously "sold."

    Also, IANAL.

Paypal fulfills the first requirement. You do not need a credit card to use Paypal. Instead, you can add funds to your Paypal account by sending them a check. However, you don't get the $5 sign-up bonus unless you register one of your credit cards with them.

Also, Paypal is as anonymous as your e-mail account, as long as you don't link it to a credit card or bank account.
