However, from the MSNBC artical it seems they actually often have real email address's at Hotmail or Yahoo. The guy said he had a bot that signed him up for 20 Yahoo addresses at a time. I know when I look at the full headers of spam it often comes from the free email service that it claims. I mean, why would they lie about something when it would be easier to get a free hard-to-trace email address?

IANAL, but from what I heard from Talk of the Nation or one of those daytime NPR shows is that there is a law that allows republication (such as micro-film). The question is whether or not the internet is covered by that law.

I think it was. The courts have been going both ways.

It is not piracy. Piracy is outright stealing. Seems to me that while it is questionable, that it is not piracy.

Yes, for the last few years it sounds like ALL freelance contracts are worded so as to give up all their rights. So this case will only decide what happens to stuff from the early 90's and before.

Everyone who goes around yelling "switch to jabber " is missing the point. I use AIM because my friends do. It isn't like using an alternate operating system or even like using an alternate word processor in that the other people using it is ALL that matters.
Sure you might come to some hardship using a non-MS Word, but it will still be usable, even if your the only one that uses it.

But instant messenging isn't like that. I do not know anyone who uses Jabber. If I did, I might use it. I can't expect my friends (the great majority being non-geeks) to switch to Jabber.

Well, I hardly ever use the features in OSCAR anyways, so I'm not too disappointed. The reason to use AOL Instant Messenger is to instant message. There are plenty of other ways to do all the stuff OSCAR does.

  17. Majik3d on WorldForge Forges Ahead · · Score: 2
Majik 3d is another massive online world. It is still a work in process. It looks like it takes much more from MUD then Fantasy RPG games, so it is less centerally organized.
    On the FAQ it says:

What is the difference between WorldForge and Majik?
WorldForge: WorldForge's approach is not to create a single game, but instead a flexible framework that can support a variety of different kinds of servers, clients, rule sets, worlds, and graphical "looks".
Majik: The Majik Project strives to create not a system for creating roleplaying worlds, which is what WorldForge aims at, but is a concentrated effort to create one complete and evolving roleplaying world.

A good site is Znet, Kosovo. They have many articals posted about that recent bombing.

In my opinion US foreign policy is evil and the only reason it is allowed to go on is because people don't know about it. We condemn the atrocities of some (like Kosovo), but finance the atrocities of other (like in Turkey). And does anyone know why we made a no-fly zone in Iraq? And still have it? And sabotaged the weapon-inspector program by putting spies in it? And were orginally supporting Iraq? And Pinochet? And a host of other despots?

Anyways, don't decide this based purly in economic terms.
