Perhaps people can't think of anything useful to say about this topic, and people just aren't posting. Incredible!/. visitors holding their tongues when they have nothing to say. Isn't that one of the signs of the second coming of Christ?
On the topic (I wouldn't want to be accused of anything) here I sit at work watching the Weather Channel off of the cable hookup, so I can sort of relate. Oh. Maybe noone has anything to say because there's no article, just a bunch of links. There's no news here for people to read. News for nerds indeed...
Yeah, out of its orbit...and possibly right into Earth. Or at least no more lunar tides.
But as far as other planetary bodies go, if we ever actually begin manned missions to Mars, perhaps we should watch for things like this there.
Yeah, who knows if there ever was (or is) life there, but the fact is, we don't know for sure. Perhaps if there was a civilization on Mars at one point, they were talking about how they could convey the message "Bad, Don't Touch" to the descendants of those "damn mammals" on Earth in the case that the Martians left.
It surprises me that M$ could be "blindsided" by that announcement. You would think that with all of the resources M$ has at their disposal (what with their $40 billion in cash reserves) that they would have already been prepared for all angles that the states would take.
IMHO, I think they were just stalling for time in the hopes that the states would drop the matter. Which they did. Chalk one small victory up for the evil empire.
I too remember playing DOOM for the first time on my cousin's computer a long time ago. It was daylight out but the atmosphere of the game just gave you...an insecure feeling. DOOM II was (sorta) more of the same, but ever since then it seems that the games that have come out, though they have better effects and realism, are just not the same.
I suppose all us twenty-something old timers need to keep in mind that DOOM came out when we were young and malleable, and we've been playing these games all our lives. Maybe we've become desensitized. Anyone younger care to say what they feel on DOOM vs a more recent FPS?
Right on. Even if they did get the authorities involved, they would need a search warrant to even look at your computers. They need probable cause to get that. Of course, with all the terrorist hunting going on now, it might not be that hard anymore. "A pirate is like a terrorist, right?"
But if it doesn't come to that, good. Get a legal team involved to stall for time. Then you and your IT staff can go through your system and check for potential problems. Then you tell them that they are wasting your money, the taxpayers money, whom are the customers of the companies they represent. Ask them if they will reimburse the people for all of the money they have lost in their activites surrounding your school. What would they do if they didn't find anything? What could you do? I wonder.
As for the personal machines of the workers, I think that unless they are attached to your network there they don't fall under this cluster fsck umbrella. I suppose they could argue that even if the users go home and use telnet they are connected to the network. "Better not visit www.myschool.edu so that the BSA doesn't come after you when they find out you went there."
Couldn't this be considered extortion or blackmail? You will do A and B or we will do C.

Probably a long shot. Oh well.

Phil Katz, is he related to Jon Katz at all? I suppose all of PK's messages to you were spoilers of what was coming in PKZIP.

It can't be from April Fool's, it was filed November 17 of 2000.
