While the auto update will not work, they (well any "custom" OSX box) can be updated.

Download the full update from the Apple developer site, do some major moving and backup magic with some of the kext's (apples loadable modules), and run the install. Some people have scripts out that will resolve the issue, but its a doable manual process.

The major issue with the updates, is that some of the modifications (even when using EFI installed OSX with a stock kernel) to the modules that Apple does, breaks the hardware drivers (this was my issue), usually related to power management and ACPI, which causes the dreaded rainbow circle of death and a reboot loop :(

The RIAA/MPAA are essentially private roads in your argument, and if you plan to use them, you have to pay, but if you don't, you do not have to pay.... And no, I am not talking about public/private partnership built toll roads, thats a while different ballgame.

I will not pay a single sent to any entity. Agreements may be put in place by the various ISP's with the entertainment industry, but from that will come new competition, ISP's that will be more then happy to not charge you the fee to steal back customers from those who will.

Thats what I think they are trying to do.

My opinion on the matter, let the ISPs do what they want, if they remain a strict pipe and do nothing else to impede or interfere with traffic, thats great, but allow them the choice.

Should those same ISPs decide to mess with traffic (say filter or block VOIP and pushing their own services), let them, but strip them of all common carrier status and regulate them in such a way, let the lawsuits flow.

I think if the above happened, their interest in filtering and pushing their own services over competitors by using traffic shaping will disappear. I hope anyways.

A control center (the non player control center) throws scenarios out, they start innocent, and the members respond, sometimes reaching back to their respective security personnel or organizations (those in the meeting room are usually federal employees in the decision making process, high level feds). Sometimes they intercommunicate with the other gov orgs as well. From there the scenarios, which are all interlinked, get progressively more serious. Surprisingly though, the service itself is great, I have had very few problems, (yes there are some that had horrible installs and could never get some things working), the only issue I have is with the billing department which I have to call every month to get the appropriate triple play discount credited to my account since their system keeps losing it, and their CS.. it is abysmal and thats me being nice to them. The install actually was pleasant, and its not subcontracted like comcasts installers, they get paid hourly, not by the number of jobs they get done, so whether they do 5 installs in a day, or spend all day at your house rewiring your internal cable infrastructure, they get paid the same.
