That NUMA only excists in Clive Cussler's mind, but he has created another NUMA, the National Underwater and Marine Agency (NUMA) that is "a non-profit, volunteer foundation dedicated to preserving our maritime heritage through the discovery, archaeological survey and conservation of shipwreck artifacts."
There were no "distribution" of code in this case, but a "distribution" of an idea. The code in question in the modification made for Connolly is static and non-changeable without re-coding it. The code in Mambo is dynamic and changeable in the admin section of Mambo.
And the idea to put the leading story across two columns that Connolly claims he has invented, has been used in websites since the <table> was introduced to HTML...
Actually, the code written for Connolly is static and you can't change the layout dynamically in the admin section, something that you can do with the code in Mambo.
Nobody is expecting to find life on Titan! The search is not as much a search for life, but how life started here on Earth. The conditions on Titan is thought to be similar to how it was here on Earth just after it was created. And since the temperature out there is so low, most of the chemical and bio-chemical conditions is still intact and will provide valuable knowledge about the conditions in the newly created solarsystem, aand on how life started back home on Earth.
Well, getting the pr0n industry to start using a new technology is a sure thing to get it to take of!;-) Just think of Super-8, vcr's, Internet, DVD's...
As long as you don't write TODO's in your sourcecode, you are safe from that patent. But who knows if the eminent USPO has granted patents to other kinds of to-do lists?
It would not be cheap! But it could be a part of a greater plan to build a large and permanent presence on the moon. And for that to be a success, it needs to be as independent of supplies from Earth as possible.
And the production of nuclear materials for energy production could be one part of making it economical feasible.
And to avoid the risk of launching rockets with nuclear material, this would be perfect for basing this on a lunar base that extracts nuclear materials, process it and launch rockets with nuclear-powered rovers, probes etc.
This lunar base should probably be based somewhere around Mare Imbrium where there most likely are concentrations high enough.
True, but how "big" would NASA have been if all the knowledge and the technology developed by and/or for the military and its presence in space had to been developed entirely for the civilian sector? It seems it is easier to get heavy federal funding for military scientific projects than for purely civilian scientific projects.
I submitted that article 2004-05-29 22:53:57 and it was rejected. I even managed to spell the name of the spacecraft correctly. But now that the news is old you want it? Do they use a dice when they select the submissions to publish?;-)
What about p2p networks outside the US? The DMCA might be far reaching, but it still has limits. Most other jurisdictions don't have anything like the DMCA, yet...
After a little googling, it seems that they learn a scandianavian language as a secondary language, but not a hodge-podge mix. Most of the Icelanders I have met speak Danish, but since Danish, Swedish and Norwegian have so close roots and are very similar, it is easy to understand each other. So there should not be a need for a hodge-podge mix. But then IANAI...;-)
A lot of people still has to work, also here in Norway. I also needed to work yesterday, but at least I got extra pay for working on a public holiday!:-D

That is the job for NOAA (National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration).
Even if they win an appeal, it would still cost them plenty! After all, the lawyers want to be payed...

True, but they did the same thing to Super8 film and VCR's. But maybe that was before your time...

We would have to eliminate politicians too then!
Hmmm, maybe not a bad idea after all...

Well, you have the "deep sea" equivalent of NASA, called NOAA - National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration that explore the deep seas.

Scientific satellites very often use polar orbits since it allows them to cover the whole of the earth surface.
And if the US military hadn't been involved with NASA and space development throughout its history, I doubt there would be much, if any, NASA.
how soon after it is released that someone has Linux running on it?

I woudn't be surprised if that happend! :( Pissed, yes, but not surprised.

It would be "horesønn" in Norwegian, but this "Scandinavian" language, I have never heard about...
What's the difference from every other day of the year? ;-)

That would mean the daughter of Slash.
Another extreme way of learning french would be to join the French Foreign Legion...
