Facebook is a corporation. A corporation is a group of people with common ownership of an enterprise, and who are continually hoodwinked into thinking they are earning money while the BoD and management trickle out just enough in dividends to keep these people thinking it. The only reason most non-institutional investors bother is either a) they have enough money to invest big and either make it big or make a big tax break on the loss; or b) they want to feel like big-shots, even if they only own 1/575,000,000,000 of the company. That and limited liability -- that is, the ability to acquire money and not be accountable for how it is acquired. And then act all indignant and shocked when confronted with how the money was acquired.
Fabulous wealth is always "just around the corner" (though they won't say that in the prospectus), but that is only for those with millions of shares. The days of a stock price going for $10 to $20,000 over time are long over. GE and Berkshire Hathaway will never be duplicated, certainly not by any tech company.
If you weren't in on the beginning, don't bother now.
That being said, I guess a group of people qualifies as a "thing."
You should be able to drag and drop music from one place to another as long as they are your devices. Whether it's Apple, or RIAA (I would bet it's RIAA though), there are technologies in place to prevent honest people from pirating music -- people who probably wouldn't do it anyway. Anyone knowledgeable enough about the product, and dishonest enough to copy music for their friends, is going to find a way to do it. Which is way different from wanting to bequeath your music collection to your heirs. Unless Apple/RIAA or whoever , is willing to refund the purchase price of every single song in a collection upon the death of the "owner," Mr. Willis is correct and should have the right to transfer the music he "bought" to his daughters. Anything else is mere rental, which is certainly not the terminology used in any part of the iTunes Store or the software. Granted, he should be able to transfer only one copy, which means the daughters have to divvy up the collection, but what you buy, you own.
And, of course, no mention is made of other factors, only whether or not marijuana was in use. Well, the same can be said of alcohol. Or caffeine. Or a host of other substances. I'm sure the "study" only shows a correlation, not causation. When they can prove that it's more harmful than any legal substance, I'll still say it's up to the individual to decide what to do with his/her body. And I'll agree to limits on use by minors when everyone agrees that abortion can't be done on a minor. It's about the sovereignty of the person over his or her own body. Nothing more. Nothing less.
I agree. I've known plenty of uncircumsized men and they are (and have been) as healthy as I or more so. This is BS. Maybe in a third world country where hygiene isn't practiced, this might be a health issue but not here. I still resent being mutilated without having any say. It was done even without my parents' consent! And for those who claim I'm not missing anything, I say, "I'll never know now, will I?"
MD != God. Time for them to start acting like humans instead of omnicient beings.
Do people still use that fraudulent service? I have had HUGE fees extracted with notification only after the sale. I have had PayPal try to deduct funds from my bank account for a fraudulent eBay transaction and adamantly refuse to respond to my complaints and I have finally and forever stopped using either one. That company should have been sued into oblivion years ago, and now people are agreeing not to seek real, impartial relief? Well, stupid is as stupid does; if you really think they are only trying to facilitate online selling, good luck to you.
If not, keep voting Democrat and Republican. They will find the limits to your tolerance eventually. If you want to be safe and stable, try a dictatorship. Oh wait, that's what we have. We just have multiple dictators.
After all, a political science professor would know that you don't need statistics to bamboozle the public..just tell them what you think they want to hear, tack on a percentage figure and voila! Who needs math for that? And a poli-sci professor would be clearly against anyone being able to calculate their own tax bill -- why do you think the politicians make it as difficult as possible? If you don't have the money to pay someone to do it, why the IRS will do it for you! Isn't that convenient?!
But then Rand Paul's watered down TSA bill hit the floor and I withdrew. This is not a libertarian organization; it is a front for more Republican hooey. If you want a libertarian in office, vote Libertarian. No brainer.
I think the point was that no one really has. Like you, however, I am concerned about non-geographic entities (e.g., Al-Qaeda, FARC, etc.) getting nuclear weapons, and am worried, if not surprised, that our government has not announced any kind of policy other than a belligerent "we'll give as good as we get" rant from Bush Jr. Some kind of notice has to be served on the governments of the states where these non-national groups operate that they are the ones who will suffer if such a thing were ever to happen. A start would be to put Al Qaeda on notice that the first nuclear target would be Mecca. Hopefully, that would give them pause. If not, it might at least prompt the Saudis to rein in the Wahabis and Salafis based on their soil.
Unfortunately, in America today you are guilty until proven innocent. No, despite principles to the contrary, the store employee probably could be prosecuted if the iPad went to Iran. Thanks to the cowards who put the so-called "Patriot Act" in place (and those to marvel at how safe it's kept us), we might as well live in Soviet Russia. If nothing proves the terrorists have won, this should. But then, if the TSA didn't prove that to you, you're probably too stupid to remember to breathe.
I could just hear the twangy, whiny accent abaut whah we caiyant sayell yew one o' them thar iPad thangs, Ah'm sorry but yew maht be a turrist er sumthin'.
The rank igorance and cowardice in this country is palpable and sickening.
And the first post I see hits the nail right on the head. Companies also wonder why they can't keep people when they stagnate the wages ("you get paid enough") so the employee moves on to a company paying more.
Do they think we're doing this as a hobby?
What? Republicans and Democrats in favor of curtailing personal freedom and privacy out of cowardice? SHOCK!

That pretty much sums it up -- he's a dick but he's not a stupid dick.

I'm shocked that someone posting on /. is unaware of the female anatomy...

If it does, it must be a sign from GAWD that the Republican Party is not doing GAWD's will.

We surrendered that kind of freedom YEARS ago.
But it will be the equivalent of the Ministry of Propaganda. Teach the teachers what to teach so we get a crop of good little Marxists.
So the wikileaks testimony was...leaked? Is that leakage squared?
Why didn't they call it the "Stone Tablet" or "The Tablet of Commandments"?

Well HERE'S a surprise...
We really, really should have let the South go when we had the chance.
Not very old, are we? At least as recently as the 1980s. Or maybe the 1960s. But, sadly, today you are quite correct.
Maybe the clerk shouldn't be allowed to SELL iPads, being from a terrorist country and all. /sarcasm
