Be OS is not aimed at the embedded or internet appliace market at all. get your facts straight. BeIA is a completely different product from th edesktop Be OS. Be OS 5 is a near perfect desktop OS, and with the recent releases by the videolan project, the only thing (playback of CSS based DVDs) keepig me from using it damn near full time has been removed.
to quote the master himself: "Time wounds all heels." say what you want about the man, but his stories are always fun to read. isn't that what it supposed to be about? heinlein would be "grumbling in his grave" if he knew people were trying to pigeonhole him into "anarcho-syndycalist" or "radical leftist" or "Randian" or whatever.
while it isn't a true database, it has the most practicle features.
yes, new attributes can be added, but it takes a couple command line manipulations, which takes like a minute, then bang!, new, fully searchable attributes.
the Be OS has had a database-like, journaling filesystem since it's very first release. it's the best of both a database, and a file system. I don't know what i would do without it. it makes sorting my thousands upon thousands of mp3s a snap. Add a CD the the collection, fill in the attributes for genre, album, year of release, and so on, and I have a fuly searchable collection.
If one person or a a hundred million people read slashdot, the argument is still valid.
these are the smae people that were bithcing about it last time this topic came up, and these are the same people who want freedom of expresiion.
the best place to get case modification gear is CaseETC at http://www.caseetc.com . CaseETC will soon be the only supplier for what wil be the most awesome case on the planet, within the budget of most of us anyway. it is/has all aluminum, 13 drive bays, dual PSU mounts, 6 120mm fan mounts, WTX certified, and friggen huge. 14 inches wide by 26 inches high, and 18 or 20 inches deep. and the whole thing will only cost about $300 shipped, with a 300w Sparkle PSU included. those were the last specs listed that i remember, but there is an FAQ on CaseETC.
Did I mention that the case will have each part of it anodized in the color of your choice, for free no less.
the best forum for case mods is at:

to all you people who are bad mouthing and talking crap about people who mod their case, bugger off. aren't you the same people who "scream from the mountain tops" to think differently, to go your own way, to be an INDIVIDUAL?
it's pathetic when people like you start talking crap about others, and then turn around and cry for freedom of expression when the roles are reversed.
a heinlein fan, i presume. that darn cat Pixel...errr...Schroedinger's cat. i think this is a great idea as well.
i happen to be a huge heinlein fan as well. got about 200 various heinlein books, in multiple editions of some, including mints firsts of my faves.
how many of you are involved in things that won't allow you watch an episode of the mini-series firsthand? how many of you have to watch a tape of it?
i have a concert to go to tonight. i have been planning to go to it for almost 4 months. I am going to see my namesake, Boy Sets Fire, in concert with Snapcase and Death By Stereo tonight in Pittsburgh.
i hate having to watch stuff like this on a crappy copy of VHS....argh!
not sure if anyone has tried that, but i know a guy that took two cases, bolted them together, and put two systems in the monsrtosity. one side of the "double machine in a box" was his linux server and the other side was his linux client.
most drive faces can be easily removed for painting.
if you are going to take the case off a monitor for painting or whatever, be sure to leave it unplgged for several days before you start. also, flip the power switch on it a couple of times a day as well to make sure there is no juice still built up in it.
grounding is covered if you build a wood or plexi case. the components are grounded through the motherboard, which is in turn grounded through the PSU, and hece the ground pole on the plug.
no intereference involved you moron. and yes that is neon inside the case right noext to the components. it couldn't possibly cause interference if not a single person has mentioned it in the last 6 months.
have you read anything aout quantum computers? the description of them given in "The Code Book" makes key length irrelevant. it could check all possible keys in 1 second.
i think it is disgusting that you people have nothing better to do than insult people that mod their cases. we do it for fun. not all of us are content to have a plain beige box like you. it is way too boring.
we do it because it is fun. you say that is pointless to trick out a case because it has no functionality. i bet you are they same people that use skinz for your software. how many of you have some flashy skin for blackbox or litestep or winamp, or any other skinnable application? we just take it to the next logical step. after the software is skinned, the case gets the case itself gets a new skin.
go find something more important to gripe about than people who want a cool looking case.
didn't MythBusters do the coke/mentos thing like a year ago?
but will is play Counter-Strike?

leave the hillbilly jokes out, please.
i wonder how huch that effing thing cost him to build, aside from the acutal components.
i'd be willing to bet it doesn't put out nearly enough to cause a problem.
is the goatse.cx one. amazing.

i just got used to doing it by hand, back on Be 4.

i am heavily in favor of anything that runs BeIA. i am an everyday Beo OS 5 Pro user, and highly anticipate anything that can help Be prosper.

http://www.caseetc.com the guy that runs it is pretty damn cool. he's got all the right gear you need to make a bitchin' case mod.
they have hade DNS problems at Virtual Hideout
