Capitalism isn't necessarily a bad thing. However, unrestrained and unchecked capitalism is... hence the formation of monopolies and companies who exist to profit off of _depriving_ people instead of providing something.

I have nothing against a company seeking to make money off of a good product or service. I have everything against a company who wishes to legislate extortion in able to make a profit. If your product can't cut it, well... the solution is not to pass law or use bad business practice to force a bad product and any "taxes" upon the people. Make a better product!

Also, I want to point out that I did not directly attack capitalism... but the garbage spawned from it. While the need for advertising may exist, I believe our society has gone WAY too far in letting our lives become commercialized. I do not listen to broadcast radio, nor do I subscribe to cable... because there are too many commercials. I just don't want the web to become the same way. It may already be too late.

And before you use the "so, you expect all this content and the resources it uses to be given to you for free" argument, see above. I would much rather give them my money than deal with horrible advertising for shit I do not want.

I wish this article had a little more substance to it or maybe some links to somewhere that did. It's a bit thin on details and information.

Regardless, having a thin CRT solution to replace LCDs would be great. I mean, I love the things that LCD screens enable me to do (especially with mobile applications, laptops, etc.)... but the bad thing about LCDs is that they are extremely fragile.

A nice LCD screen compared to the same size/resolution is probably really nice to look at... for a while. Then that nasty thing happens... you get a bright yellow pixel stuck "on" in the middle of your screen, forever taunting you from the midst of dark colors.

When LCD pixels go out, it sucks... but usually not a big deal. When one of the pixel's colors gets stuck to "on" it's absolutely terrible.

Hopefully these thin CRTs will bring the advantages of LCDs and the reliability of big-tube CRTs together for a nice package.

But the worst part is some script kiddie started mail bombing us from uunet. The mailbomb was a 500k message containing a windoze virus. Every time we blocked a uunet relay, the messages would start coming in from another uunet relay. UUnet didn't seem to care; they completely ignored our help requests. After about two days of this, we finally blocked enough relays that it stopped. But in the meantime it was hell, as we had to watch our mail spools to prevent our system from filling up.
