  1. There used to be a time... on Hack of Democrats' Accounts Was Wider Than Believed, Officials Say (nymag.com) · · Score: 5, Insightful

There used to be a time when the press acted as investigative journalists, and worked with whistleblowers to expose political corruption and hold politicians accountable for their actions (think Watergate). This was lauded as necessary for the function of the country. Now, this function has been outsourced to the FSB, and the corruption they reveal is denigrated as "interfering with the sanctity of the electoral process". How about the press goes back to being watch dogs instead of lap dogs, shake off the "Democrats with bylines" label, expose the corruption themselves, and undermine the FSB?

As an android fan, I am actually impressed by Siri. Siri puts a dummy-friendly face on Android voice search. Plus, it has some serious back-end tech chops. Finally, how can you not love its snappy answers to stupid requests like "open the pod bay doors"?

Years ago, people predicted the 3-hour workday from all the technology . Instead, a lucky few work full-time and the rest are unemployed. This is progress. The singularity is coming because we can't afford to be humans anymore. It's much cheaper to exist in an online-only version.

The cloud can't replace local storage. A 10mbps cable line is no match for an internal sata drive. And google desktop search is much faster than windows search, and is much better at finding emails than outlook's own search. I have come to rely on this at work, and am loathe to install windows search instead. I would love to see this become open-source.

Desktop innovation is dead. The only active innovation is on handheld devices, and linux (in the form of Android OS) is quickly becoming the biggest game in town. If you count handhelds and Android OS, linux would have a much higher user percentage.
