You can download all his stuff for free, and it's very, very high quality.
I'm sure others will point out other free artists; his lyrics generally speak to the inner geek in all of us, and the songs have catchy beats to match!
Oh, also, he did the song at the end of Portal, although that wasn't his voice, as it sounds much better.
Some of his favorites of mine: Shop Vac, I Feel Fantastic (excellent song about "better living through chemistry"), Todd the T1000, Better, Ikea, SkyMall, Someone is Crazy, Furry Old Lobster, Code Monkey (the song that introduced me to him, great coder tune), The Presidents (now needs to be updated!), Not About You, Flickr, "Dance, Soterios Johnson, Dance", Chiron Beta Prime, The Future Soon, Octopus, Gambler's Prayer, and Re: Your Brains (about a well-educated zombie).
I like the future thinking, but not the "wait wait don't kill me yet!" part at the end.
My vision is of a very similar future, but instead of duplicating/destroying, it will instead be a process of "change from within", so that your existing body becomes hardened, stronger, faster, more intelligent.
This will be achieved through nanotechnology, and my best guess (thought up years ago in Florida) is: I'll take a pill, and the nanomachines will work their way up to my brain, converting it into denser thinking material so that I am able to think several billion times faster. While this is happening, I'll be looking up at the ceiling fan (Florida, remember), which will gradually slow down to almost a complete stop.
The trouble with this future is, it will be very difficult to communicate with people who have not taken the pill; imagine communicating with someone who speaks at a rate of one word per year.
"The more you tighten your grip, Tarkin, the more star systems will slip through your fingers."
It's funny, I was thinking this line just this past weekend when I heard the news about the US attack in Syria. It's strange, we keep blowing people up and then keep wondering "why do people want to blow us up?"
As long as we get the oil, or something, record profits for Exxon and Chevron mean our economy is in good shape!:(
Oh, and MTV sucks, I haven't paid it any attention in years. Used to like watching the music videos but they don't seem to do that any more.
Seems to me, keeping people ignorant about competition (what programs do file sharing) is a lot like keeping people ignorant of alternative business models in general.
Well, you know, there's some truth to this.
I did not start playing around with Napster until Metallica spoke out against them; then, I wondered what all the fuss was and checked it out.
So there may be something to this; I know I was not the only one who was similarly influenced by Lars.
While I see your point, Asimov meant to take it even further. Your interpetation implies that violence can be an acceptable solution to a problem. Asimov is saying that it never is, and if you think it is a valid solution, you're not seeing the whole picture.
Filling one's belly involves violence, even if one is one of the strictest forms of vegan.
Therefore, either we're all incompetent because we all eat, or there's a flaw in Asimov's logic, which I rightly pointed out in the GP.
At the risk of veering off-topic like you were modded, I had a 1 TB (Seagate!) drive fail in the past week myself, one of a purchase of 3. In the process of RMAing it. Luckily, like you, I hadn't decided to trust any data solely to it yet; so nothing was lost. Still, that purchase more than doubled the data storage in this house, in other words, those three drives together can store more data than the 40+ other drives I have in and out of machines here. (Did I just set myself up for a burglary?:) Probably not, as they're mostly 10 GB or so...)
A side question: if he had been modded, could you have determined whether it was before or after your post? Just curious, as I haven't seen timestamps on moderation, but I might be looking in the wrong place or something...
E.g., what if one particular GM crop doesn't actually do whatever evils that guy imagines them to do?
Well, the only "evil" I'm worried about when there are GM crops around my farmland, is...
The evil that Monsanto will accuse me of attempting to "steal" their IP when their seeds blow onto my land.
So, I would think that I'm completely justified in destroying my neighbor's Monsanto crops. Not that I'm a farmer. What point is it to have a good "PR image" if the judge can say, "regardless of wind patterns, you knowingly stole Monsanto's IP"??? None, in my book.
And no guarantee that the one terrorist that might show up once every billion of people is going to be caught by the machine.
Yeah, and what about the terrorists that will be created by said machine? (Just like our indiscriminant bombing campaign in the Middle East helps to produce terrorists...)
The American attitude of 'a gun in everyone's pocket keeps everyone safer' is one that doesn't work at home [...]
Quoting Heinlein, "An armed society is a polite society."
Going further, our 1968 gun laws were based on the 1938 Nazi gun laws; the senator who drafted them had checked out the 1938 Nazi laws as part of his research into the laws he was drafting.
Finally, disarm the populace and you control them; this was learned/shown by many, many dictators in recent and not-so-recent history.
So, I disagree with your conclusion, although I agree that the US should keep out of other nations' business. (My having a gun at home means I can keep my home safe -- it does not mean that I can threaten my neighbors with it.)
In case you're wondering, you're a friend now based on those five words. Oh, and the great sig.
Yeah, especially if it's not retroactive.
"Joey, have you ever been in a Turkish hospital?"

Hi, I know it's an oft-used analogy, but it's false...
Wow, hey, thanks. :)

Wow, so now my .sig seems on-topic! :)
I used up my mod points. Please make the parent more visible. A society which uses "secrecy" as part of its legal system is close to failing.
That's what I thought. So: good that it never got modded! :)
Agreed; I tagged this "!huntersthompson" before I saw your post. :)

A .sig comment:
I've always had trouble with this quote. "Last refuge" means, basically, "after trying all else, we do this."
Therefore, I would state that violence is the last refuge of the competent, and, generally, the first refuge of the incompetent.
I agree with everything you say, except the last four words: the GP was not modded, at the time I read your post, which was about 2 minutes ago.

Or how about a Tom Cruise Missile?
Hang on, there's a Scientology attorney at my door...

In fact, MS Bob was highly successful: Melinda got a contract.
MA is also a commonwealth. (That word sounds like socialism...)
Of course, funny is in the eye of the beholder, and very often humor is insightful.
