Even worse 1 in 4 of the messages sent the virus to me in the message bounce.

But in reality antivirus software is playing a losing game, it tries to get out virus definitions to protect systems after the virus has been released. Not only that the viruses have much faster distribution rate than the definitions so it's a loosing battle. We need a new solution.

I propose that we should call for a ban of Microsoft Lookout. In its short existence, it has become the most insecure piece of software every written -- surpassing Bind, Sendmail and even Wuftpd, programs much older than it.

While we are at it lets call for banning direct access to the internet for all windows based systems. Let's face it. If you put a windows box bare on the net, eventually it is going to be compromised. Windows wasn't originally designed to work on the internet and Microsoft has shoehorned in the internet support without proper security measures taken.

You can't rely on end users who are too afraid to install there own OS to properly secure and update the machine. Someone needs to do that for them and frankly Microsoft doesn't.

Blocking an IP is the obvious "right way" but it still might not be the best solution if that cuts your off from the webpage or other important service.

Hmm, you do realize that outgoing HTTP requests do not normally use port 80? They connect to port 80 on the other end maybe but they originate for a port other than port 80.

Occasionly the may merge in some DRI stuff into the CVS tree but they never provide the cutting edge 3d support that current DRI drivers provide.

Also I have played games on a Rage128 under Linux with the DRI driver and they were not as good as performance of my current 9100Pro that has little to do with the drivers and everything to do with the fact that the R200 core Radeons are very much faster than the Rage 128s.

I've had programs hose the system under linux, too. (Konqueror!) (Now your probably going to say I set it up wrong,, and yeah, your probably right) You really can't blame an OS for someone else's software. I mean, I was just working on something, and some stuff I had written caused a page fault (one of those stupid mistakes). I can't blame the OS for that. I've kept a generally clean system, and its longest uptime has been 12 days, at which point a buggy driver brought it down. Up until that time, it had been working perfectly, and had the driver been working probably still wouldn't have crashed.

I am a computer professional and am an expert in installing and configuring windows. The problem has nothing to do with the setup.

I've said this more than once, and I'll say it again: In order to acheive a stable system, you HAVE to configure it correctly. I have never gone over 2 days uptime with Linux, mostly because I honestly have no idea how to set it up correctly, I just click next in the RH installer, and let it go. Generally, however, XP and Linux are, out of the box, good enough for most general use.

I have a linux box that never crashes. It's been running for almost 2 years now and the only time it get rebooted is when the kernel is upgraded or there's a power outage. Now I have some non default programs on there but I did nothing special to set it up.

1 PCI-Express is still a least 9 months to a year off and they want something in between.
