I set up a home network for a neighbour, and in return, I received a bottle of Glendronach 15 yr., sherry cask aged. MmMmMmmmm. Also had offers for Chiropractic and Optometrist appointments, Beer, Baileys + Coffee, "smokes", Free CDs, meals, etc.. Generally, friends and family have been friendly and thankful.

    Mr_Wood, out.

  2. Obvious, but helpful: Manufacturers' HDD Diags. on Good, Affordable PC Diagnostic Software? · · Score: 2, Informative

    Hey folks,

It may seem too obvious to mention, but for ANY had drive issues, one of the first thigs I do is just use a bootable floppy with the manufacturer's diagnostic tools. Fujitsu, WD, Maxtor, they all have them and they have helped before. If the drive is failing, but still holding on, any bootable linux CD then goes in (Knoppix or Cool-Linux, ususally) and I copy the contents of the dying drive to a fresh one. Then the old one can continue its innevitable tranformation in to a paper weight.

I don't mean this as a flame. I'm genuinely curious, what are your reasons for not wanting to use the 2.2.x kernels?

Unfortunately, since Windows flavours have become the standard desktop OSs in offices (Not agreeing that it should be, but lets be honest) people are familiar with it's layout mre than any thing else. To make an OS "useful" or "user friendly" means making it easy for non computer savvy users to intuitively find the features they need. Sadly, this HAS to mean either making it resemble windows, or retrain everyone with the "new, more creative approach"

Yeah I have, but contrary to some people's beliefs, there are more readers here then just the regulars. The more friendly, considerate, constructive or helpful people are, the more likely people are to read the comments. The main point was, someone was trying to be helpful, others modded him up, and you gave them all attitude. That just about covers it. G'day sir.

Actually, yes, I do. Not wanting to get accounts everwhere they can, I'm sure many users (myself included) actually appreciate these links. It's truly a useful post, instead of just "let's try to find a way to blame microsoft" which always gets modded up here. Thanx to TechnoVooDooDaddy for posting it and to the moderators who modded it up. G'day.

  9. Reward developers by having good policies on How Should Companies Grant Recognition To Developers? · · Score: 2

Impliment a company policy that states that they will continue to provide open source drivers for all their hardware in the future. I think most developers would appreciate this and it would prove to those on the project that their contributions were more than just the one driver they were working one. They'll know they've helped the open source community as a whole.

Oh yeah, give them coffee too. I hear they like that
