  1. Re: Stay away from the Mambox on Nomad Portable Jukebox MP3 Player Reviewed · · Score: 1

Mp3 CD players are a good idea, but the Genica CD player from computer Geeks is not great product IMO!

I thought, hey this looks neat, so I bought one. First one was great, bad interface, hard buttons, but it worked, for about 21 days, then it died for no apparent reason. Returned it, got another one, I guess they didint test it, because from the very first day it wasnt working properly.
It would start spinning too fast and the laser wasnt able to read the CD. If I would tilt it slightly I could see the CD slow down and it began reading again. It got worst and worst also.

Finaly I returned that one too and asked for a refund.

Its a first gen product and for 99$ well you get what you pay for.

  2. This needs a real Telephony solution. on TMBG Needs a New Dial-A-Song Machine · · Score: 1

Im an integrator for a company called Decisif.

We have a CTI suite called Focus with IVR (what they need), an ACD and Predictive Dialing.

Now Im surely preaching our product but has one important thing that others dont, flexibility.

MAJOR Flexibility, through scripting, and not some proprietary scripting language either (Im know some of you are going to shoot me for this...) but we use VB script.

Why ? you might ask, because, WHO cant code in vb, seriously.

We use Dialogic boards, and currently support Visual Voice pro 5, but we are working on our one voice module which should be finished soon.

In any case, I think TMBG should be looking into real telephony solutions for this wether it be ours or another companies.

All the wireless companies have it : Bell canada, Rogers/AT&T, Clearnet and Fido.

But none of them offer free incomming calls.

The only company Ive seen that offers decent servie through this method is Bell canada.

You can still have services like weekends and nights for 1 cents a minute, 200 minutes of internet per month for 5 $ etc...

They just take it of the vouchers money once a month. Good for ppl with bad or no credit. But a plan is still better, will always cost lest per call.

It mostly depends on how you encode it, and the bitrate you use for your mp3's. Basicaly fiting a 1h30 movie on a 650 mb CD, would give you a pretty good quality movie. I saw the movie RKO 281 last night! BTW an Excelent movie.

Its the story sorrounding the making of Citizen Kane by Orson Wells.

It was based on the live of William Randolph Hearst. Now if you want to talk about corporatism and Information control, thats your guy.

At that time he had s much influence in the corporate world he came close to preventing Citizen Kane from getting on the big screen.

Since then others have joined the race for information distribution, but the Hearst Corporation lives on, they have diversified in all fields of communication. i.e. The Hearst Interactive Media group created in 1993 have a partnership in the well known website women.com and others.

But basicaly what Im saying, Hearst was powerfull back then, and some companies can be now.

If you'd like a brief history on Hearst AND the Hearst Corporation : http://www.hearstcorp.com/ah7.html

oh and RKO 281 is a good movie you should check it out. its an HBO production. recently release, in DVD also.

  17. Re:I've been really impressed with the Supreme Cou on Supreme Court Rules ISPs Not Liable for E-mail Content · · Score: 1

I dont know about patent law, but your right, The supreme court has the right to interpret any law as they see fit, of course they have to take into account precedent. The big difference in the US as compared to other places, (in example Quebec, canada) thats where I live and studied Paralegal Tech., the big difference is Common Law relies heavily on Jurisprudence which is precedent. Meaning, the supreme court CAN make law, if they see fit to do so, decisions they make have to be upheld in the lower courts. Thats why precedent is so important in the US and canada, because they use common law. In quebec, we use Napoleon law, where jurisprudence ONLY is usefull for determining the higher courts interpretation of the law, and not their decisions. Meaning, the higher courts CANNOT make a decision that bypasses a law, they HAVE to respect the law. In common law you CAN decide the law shouldnt fit in a certain situation and render a verdict not in accordance with the law, in which case you set precedent. This is an oversimplificated explanation, but a true one nonetheless. I guess this is off topic, so moderate all you wish!!!
