Well, the thing about a black hole - it's main distinguishing feature - is it's black. And the thing about space, the color of space, your basic space color - is it's black. So how are you supposed to see them?
(If you don't get this reference you need to stop what you are doing and go watch Red Dwarf now).
...the Hubble and the space station are in vastly different orbits. Getting from one to the other requires so much energy that not even space shuttles had enough fuel to do it.
Nonsense. I've successfully instructed Jebediah Kerman to do it in an EVA suit a bunch of times. How much harder can actual rocket science be?
$1 trillion / 14.4 million college student annually in the United States = An average loan of $69,444.44
Average earnings for graduates: (Source: wikipedia:) $25,900 for high school graduates $45,400 for college graduates
So a college education still pays for its self after 4 years. Investment in education has more long term benefit to the society than some short sighted investment in cars, appliances, homes...etc. Investment in education SHOULD be more important than buying a car or a deposit on a home.
All things considered $1 tril nation wide is not outrageous really. But it looks like a lot to most individuals. As the old saying goes, there are lies, damned lies and statistics. Article is just sensationalism.
1. Buy innovative games developer. 2. Churn out cheap sequels as fast as you can. 3. Disassemble the acquired company when everyone realizes that the developer is no longer capable of making decent games. 4. ? 5. Profit!
All I need now is an article on how spending work hours reading Slashdot is good for professional development and my day-to-day goofing off will be fully justified.
My leading theory is that the reason is one of language. Miles, inches and gallons rolls off the English tongue much easier than Kilometers, Centimeters and Litres. It's much easier to ask what sort of mileage does your car get, the metric equivalent is far more clumsy linguistically.
Even in Australia where metric was taken up many years ago and is part of everyday life, people often state their hight in feet and inches. When you ask for your cars fuel efficiency in Austrlia, you still ask for milage, although you might get an answer in km/litre.
Skynet.
We dont need a war in california. Yes I disagree with everything California stands for but that is no reason to go to war there.
Please, please, please someone with points mod this up.

My car gets 40 rods to the hogshead and that's the way I likes it.

Next they will work on a R/C car that runs on the tears of orphans. Renewable energy FTW!
