That is from the furry weirdos over at Wolfire games, who make some very very ugly games. (At least in the 90s, 3d games had some artistic flare...) I'd be much more curious to see how the Frictional guys do it...
By datacenter, you mean small server room? AC units fail unexpectedly, all UPS and breakers require yearly (or more) maintenance to achieve 100% uptime, please give me a break. I'm not arguing ext2 isn't good enough for you, but other peoples incompetence is not the only reason why you can have datacenter issues.
(Managed several large data-centers for many years)
But but slashdot says XKCD=funny and Randal gets laid once or twice so its SO FUNNY that he draws stick figures having a very awkward take on normal sex.... XKCD FUNNAY, U MUST NOT DISAGREE!!!!11
No offense, but the bad press you gave google because you couldn't find a simple page to screen scrape was distasteful, when your entire organization is parasitic onto google. They owe you nothing, the least you owe them is the benefit of the doubt....
128kbps AAC is def not CD quality. The compression is quite noticeable. It's better than 128kbps MP3 to be sure... but CD quality? nope. Having said this it really does depend on the kind of music and the quality of the equipment you are listening to it on. Highend headphones will make this most apparent.
I disagree that it certainly sounds better than FM. I have used Sirius XM in several cars (none my own) including Mazda 3, Audi A6, Volkswagen Jetta, and I have yet to hear on where the compression isn't much worse than a good FM system.
Agreed. I totally hate not being able to hit the US site for a business just because my IP is geotargeted elsewhere. It is very annoying as a non Americano.
Lol thats awesome. It's like that time I drove by the Star Trek convention in my sports car with my hot girlfriend. We took pictures of the convention-goers. Ahh memories!
omg baseless apple trolling, and so early in the morning too! Another day on Slashdot...
Insult apple for many things, but really their website (and ADC where you should be looking in the first place) are great resources...
40k is *NOT* a core device. 40k is a low end edge router... Seriously, $40k is probably a 4 slot router chassis for a branch office without line cards... Try $100-500k
Yea seriously... Huawei is a disgrace... and the fact that they're pretty popular here in Canada is pathetic.... What does that say about us I have to wonder...
Yes, we should all work for free. I'll feed my kids with the donations button on the webpage of my FOSS game that took years of my life to make. Sounds like a plan!
I love slashdot 3
Judging from people I've spoken to, they feel entitled to get the game for free. Makes me a little sad, because the software, man hours, and sheer talent poured into every game that isn't some dinky flash game costs a whole hell of a lot more than $0.
I've really noticed this too, not just on the slashdot crowd, but with this generation of highschool/college kids today. They grew up getting * games, music, movies for free, they expect to continue doing so...
Why even mentioning wordpress, blogspot, flickr and picassa?
Why even mentioning proper english?
But seriously, not everybody wants an open source solution to publish their content. Do you think my mother is going to setup a gallery code, upload to it, and maintain it to share photos? No, she is going to use flickr because its *easy*.
What does POSIX have to do with it? Please read some of the previous comments as to why Linux is generally more secure. Hint, its not the POSIX-ness of it. This is a particularly good one: http://tech.slashdot.org/comments.pl?sid=1646060&cid=32148000

Usurper of course!
Here here. Though in general one should always just ignore Tom Hudson's slashdot trolling. It got old years ago.
Um.... right. Keep on blindly hating Apple...

It's all that matters in the end. This device isn't for you to play Crysis on or compile your gentoos.

Good photo inkjet has upwards of 14 print cartridges each with different colors...
But most people just use Photoshop filters for faux-HDR making HDR a horrible cliche in photography now....

Seriously, you rarely need to do this on any recent platform. My 6500s and 7600s run fine with random crappy GBICs...
Yea seriously... Huawei is a disgrace... and the fact that they're pretty popular here in Canada is pathetic.... What does that say about us I have to wonder...
The problem is for the 10% of people doing legit personal backups, 90% are just stealing *....
No thanks, your game looks dreadful.
