i am awaere of it, but i am upset to say that a minority of ppl contribute to this site, infact they are known by name and are quite a few, but are doing a tremendous effort.
I am a computer programmer living in Egypt, the situations between Egypt and Jordan are much alike (despite the fact that Egypt is much better of both technically and financially).
The open source movement is gaining so much momentum here in Egypt, actually i am one of the people who tries to recommend Linux in each and every situation or problem met,and have managed to get some ppl to acyually implement it in more than one occassion, and performed some system devlopment on them and there are lots of ISPs running linux here in Egypt. The bottom line is, that countries like Jordan, Egypt, Qatar,..etc... should favor the open sorce movemnt cause its in their own good to do so. Enviroments like these should avoid monopolizing companies (with out mentioning any specific one $$).
With all due respect to RH, but the issue of Mandrake's survival or not means a lot. Debian did have the same problems a while back, the same problem ended Corel Linux, and now mandrake. The only tough fighting distro is RH which made a profit of 200 K grands as i recall. Now does this scenario remind us of something that happened about 15 years ago with M$.
I dont mean to say that RH is a monopoly, RH was commited since day one to open source in general, and did pay back and still is to the linux community; and this is something i respect and love about RH.
But we as linux users and developers should stand by all distros with our mighty $, just to make try to make the choice availabilty of good, dependable SW exisiting. And lets not forget that Mandrake is No 1 desktop linux distro, and its worth the effort and the money. As techis we see what other business men dont see, and that is quality, if Mandrake goes down, so does another quality SW factory.
If ur intention is to keep ur documents archived and searchable (FTR'd), then i would recomend an archiving system(DMS). You dont have to go through the hassale of coonverting ur documents, and at the same time they would be indexed and therby searchable. Most archiving systems support MS office documents, PDF's, HTML's etc..
I guess this would save u the time and effort of converting ur documents(it might cost u more though:), but hell, money is always avalable isnt it,lol)
I am a Tech.Support team leader my self, and this is what i get:
1) Vague statments from customers that donr know how to define the problem. So first of all, design a standard questionare (ASAP-as simple as possible) , cause usually customes are ppl with lots of money that know shit:)..(they go around corrupting ur software and when asked whem happened, they say "it just went crazy!!!")
2) Manage ur knowledge, never let a valuable piece of info pass by without recording into a DB that u know its design, therfore i recommend the suggestion above about ut own SW to control ur KB.
3) Give ur techs their chance to strenghten their knowledge, Support is not like programming, when ur a support tech, u have to know lots of issues regarding various and extreme technologies, cause u might be supporting ur product on several platforms and db engines, its not like u have 1 or 2 programming languages and thats it.
4) Minimize customer interaction, by adding a support page with FAQ's and info on first aid troubleshooting steps on ur website. This will eliminate a big percentage of problems.
5)Last but not least, if the cusotmer has paid his support fees, contract or whatever....then.........HE IS ALWAYS RIGHT....
Runtime Error Description: An application error occurred on the server. The current custom error settings for this application prevent the details of the application error from being viewed remotely (for security reasons). It could, however, be viewed by browsers running on the local server machine.
Why does this remind me of that Norweign dead net admin that dies with his password and they had to call "TO ALL HACKERS OF THE WORLD" , isnt that a similar case????
Well i did it several times, and i used redhat in the process, compile kernel to read NTFS and FAT32 volumes, and reboot, and voila, u can restore ur windows partition.
i totally agree with u, infact i face the same problem, lots of coders nowadays have the attitude of learning some API's (in a 2 week course maybe), and lack major concepts (like what is a parser in ur case), and these kinds of coders just push an unreliable technology forward, leaving all the good stuff to rotten... i agree
The last "DeskTop" Linux i used was Corel Linux, and lets c where did that end up to be... to me its just another cd lying somewhere under that pile oc cd's over there... That doesnt mean that KDE and Gnome are not doing a fascinating Job, no, they are truly amazing, but i think that a "DeskTop" linux needs some more time, and a different approach...
well i have an armada M700, and there are no craks as much as i can see... But i have a broken pin in my serial port though, and i winder where did that come from...
