One master computer.. running SuperSync, Plex Server, iTunes, FileZilla, with as much storage as you need (4T USB drive at Costco for $179). Use a remote backup service. Then have remote clients throughout the house, at the office, etc. that can log in and upload/download/add playlists, sync ratings, etc. http://supersync.com/
Perhaps a $50/year cert is the equivalent of paying $0.001 per email. I for one am VERY happy with the free email services provided by google and their ability to filter out spam.
I should have said 3% 30, net 60. Which is, if they pay within 30 days, they can take 3% off the entire order. The full amount is due at 60 days.
Other discounts are "-% 10 net 30" (read: two-ten-net-thirty) is, take 2 percent off if paid within 10 days.. full amount due within 30 days... In this instance, if they don't take the discount, they are are paying 2% to keep the money they owe you for 20 extra days-- again about 36%.
Definitely be nice and polite to the A/P department you're talking to. Ask them for advice on how to get paid sooner. Lament that you're trying to get Christmas bonuses out before the fiscal year end.. They can also tell you what their policy is for taking cash discounts.
Adding a "markup and overhead" is also not illegal.. and rarely challenged if you don't have a solid contract that spells that out. It can't hurt to try to add it on.
Add in a ~10% overhead and markup to all invoices.. then offer 3% net 30 payment terms. Most big companies have an accounting policy that says they must take the 3% discount (because it is the equivalent of borrowing money at >36% interest, something accountants hate.) The late fee is a little trickier, but write on the invoice that late fees of 6% per month are added after 60 days. If they complain about a late fee when you submit the invoice, kindly remind them that it only applies if the payment is later than 60 days, a more than fair period of time.
Lastly, follow up a day or two after you email the invoice. "Hi, just wanted to make sure you got my invoice and check on the status of it.." Make sure you have a name and phone number of the A/P person who will be paying it. Call every day regarding late invoices...
The surest way to combat piracy will be to require ISP's to map IP addresses to subscribers. Add monitoring and automatic notices that warn of the copyright laws already on the books will follow. Any law that will increase the size of government or more deeply invade the privacy of citizens will be embraced. Prosecutions means more legal busywork, more sentencing, more wage garnishment, etc. All of which bring a smile to the face of our benevolent rulers.
Yes, people will be able to encrypt their torrenting and skirt the laws.. but plenty of dumb ones will be caught... enough to keep the lawyers busy and the studios happy.
That is what I was referring to-- bringing the money back here. Piles of money overseas is a problem for a lot of tech companies. One way to address the "problem" is to build in N. America.
Manufacturing in China is getting more expensive and North America is becoming more competitive. The tax rate on repatriating money made outside of the US also makes manufacturing in the US more advantageous.
Very few software companies can give away their software with all the features without selling the product or having a subscription/advertising income. You're software may in fact be better than all the commercial alternatives, but I doubt it. So by attracting cheap-scape "customers", you're missing out on the most important part of developing a real client/customer relationship, namely, a customer who pays you money.
The best part about writing software is that you can SELL virtually unlimited copies for the price of developing it once. Support and add-ons is the exact opposite-- you can only do so much and everything you do requires expensive humans to do the work. So.. if you can't start charging for it, time to cut bait and change your model.
Maybe. In some states Romney lost by about the same number of votes that Gary Johnson got. If Obama does a worse job on protecting Libertarian ideals than Romney might have, then maybe not. Unfortunately, the L party as well as all 3rd parties have been marginalized by the D/R juggernaut. Peace.
Conservative talk radio is jammed with talk of the importance of liberty (Example, Mark Levin, who wrote Liberty and Tyranny). Libertarians, too are obviously against intrusive government, for example, Ron Paul's farewell speech.
A lot of people think that Republican's are just a bunch of Christian, gun-toting hicks, and Democrats are the protectors of the little people, but of course the truth is more complicated..
I wish I had $4000 to blow on making my neighbors hate me. There's a guy who doesn't keep his hedges trimmed and another guy who uses his sprinklers too much. Oh, I'd make their lives a living hell.
Al Gore promised us a hockey stick spike in temperatures and he was flat wrong. In the last 16 years, you cannot say that the trend he predicted came anywhere close to being accurate. It was a scare story then, and it continues to be one.. With billions in the last 4 years going to politically connected people and promptly going bankrupt. All the schemes to add carbon taxes, reduce drilling, oppose oil shale development, fracking, and kick back schemes to promote "green energy" are just fleecing taxpayers and making the economy weaker. 2 and 3x increase in energy prices create poverty, inflation, higher unemployment, and more dependency on the government. But we can disagree. Turn off your computer, you're burning carbon.
Democrat in office. If a Republican were in, it would be non-stop stories of anti-war protests, massive layoffs, crony capitalism, the tragedy of the homeless, the poor state of our schools, rising crime rates... and yes, the deficit, and how "unpatriotic" high debt is would be front page. I lived in San Francisco under both Bush's and the papers were filled with the horror stories of living under a Republican... With Obama in, the anti-war protests have stopped, the sea levels have stopped rising, and the economy is always improving.
Al Gore used expert scientists to predict a half dozen dire predictions that have failed to materialize. (Name one that has come true, if you can.) He is a big polluting hypocrite who has made millions on green energy schemes funded by the government.. while living it up in his mega mansion, mega yacht, and jet setting ways. He represents everything wrong with the global warming crowd. The billions "invested" in green energy have not produced a single revolutionary product that can stand on its own in the market place as an example of money well spent. I understand why you don't like Al Gore being propped up as the poster child of AGW.
Now the sky is REALLY falling!
Using the best science available, Al Gore assured us that a hockey stick of global warming was inevitable and ultimately unstoppable. If the last 16 year trend of no warming keeps up... In the name of humanity, WHAT THEN??
Intrade requires two forms of ID to even register, one with a picture, which needs to be manually approved. Then there are restrictions to sending them money for trading. American credit cards, paypal, and electronic checks are not accepted. That left wire transfer and mailed cashiers checks. Regular checks would require 2-3 weeks to clear. There is essentially no easy way for an American to quickly get into the system to trade.
So the pool of traders is much smaller than it could be, which may increase the number of serious players, and reduce the "sports fan" style better who just wants to put money on his favorite candidate. So I think this helps the accuracy of the prediction market. But the imposed barriers to entry also limits the ability for individuals to trade on a single real time event-- a political blunder, an insider tip, etc.
Since 1970, the U.S. Postal Service is a semi-independent federal agency, mandated to be revenue-neutral. That is, it is supposed to break even, not make a profit. It has had deficits for years.
I would prefer they cut delivery to once a week. Use some savings to implement wider adoption of electronic communication. (Voting, taxes, motor vehicles, etc.) Too bad for NetFlix.
Apple paid enormous sums to settle the claims against the music company. Unless the game is a blatant rip off of the trademarked version, Apple should protect companies that have "memory" related apps.. there must be thousands.
Do you know how many small developers this might impact? Each app may have hundreds or thousands of dollars in advertising, name brand awareness, web site names, artwork... etc. Apple should use its billions of dollars to squash this ridiculous claim. Its a word in a dictionary, not a proprietary trademark. This is Apple being a pussy.
There are many talented programmers (kids, foreigners, unemployed) where $99/year is not insignificant.. Apple has a pretty sweet deal--they're collecting $99/year from tens of thousands of developers who give their products away on the Apple store or are unable to sell their products for 70 cents because they're lost in the sea of other apps. Apple could get a tiny bit of good will by giving free code certs to developers who have products with good ratings in the store. Apple has a trillion dollar market cap and is swimming in money and the app store developers are often working for slave wages.
Apple should provide anti-piracy protection to its developers. It could--it is a walled garden and each device has a unique ID... but chooses not to.. Most developers don't make a penny selling iOS software... Apple should take as many steps as possible to encourage a healthy marketplace for quality developers. Ideas such as waiving the $99/year fee for apps that good but not yet profitable would be a start.. And re-vamping the app store to make it easier to find software would be another good first step.
Same way Apple should brick stolen phones.. But AFAIK, doesn't.

Good point. Reminds me of all those "free" AOL CD-ROMs I used to get.

Modern liberalism and subscribing to political correctness is a sign of mental disorder.

Free speech and limited government left the Democrat party after the Viet Nam War. Read Camile Paglia or the WSJ's Free Speech Died on Campus.
