    an /etc/rc/ init structure is not sysv. and red hat is not a sysv unix, it's linux.

    Courtney Love was involved in the music scene, playing in Babes in Toyland and Hole, before Nirvana ever got popular. And she has been acting since the mid/late 80's as well. She had roles in "Straight to Hell" and "Sid and Nancy" (both Alex Cox films I believe).
    Get your facts straight before shooting your mouth off, fuckwad. She's also a very talented actress. Don't be so opinionated on something you obviously know nothing about and check out some of the movies she's been in.

    Wake up people!!! BeOS is a _DESKTOP_ OS, not a server OS. Uptimes are completely irrelevant.

    what do you mean "if my HDD wasn't only 1.5 GB"...
    I just installed slackware (an older version, kernel 2.0.0) on a 386 with a 40MB hard drive, with 5 megs left over for user files. i got gcc, the c libs, tcp/ip, sendmail, and a Scheme interpreter into that little space.

    damn kids today... just don't appreciate disk space...

    screw the newbies. make them learn how to use Linux like we all did. If they really want to learn, they will on their own. I personally don't want to use an OS that products that cater to the lowest common denominator.

    How the hell are they supposed to stay in business if they give away THEIR (note the spelling) OS? Businesses need to generate revenue in order to continue to do business. This may not be apparent to some people out there. Heh, it would help a lot if those bastards at Ford didn't try to get money for their cars too...
    Wake up, kid. This is how the real world works.

    Oh yeah, if you really want to check out BeOS, order one of their Demo CDs. They're cheap, and it's a sweeeet OS.

    Just curious, but what apps do you need that aren't available for BeOS?
    The only thing keeping me from using BeOS exclusively on my machine is that my printer isn't supported (yet). I dig BeOS...
    just got Quake II running on it...sweeeet :)

    I completely agree. I was wondering if anyone else was a little bit creeped out by the level of hero worship going on here. I have nothing against Linux, mind you, but sheesh... If I was Linus, I'd think i'd be sort of annoyed at getting ninety million happy birthday emails.
    Kind of reminds me of this bumper sticker I saw that said "Jesus, protect me from your followers"

  19. OpenBSD rocks! on OpenBSD Gains Commercial Support · · Score: 0

    I found OpenBSD to be easier to install than any Linux distribution I've ever used (and I've used quite a few). I just replaced my Linux partition with it a few weeks ago, and it's now my "main OS" (I also use BeOS). I encourage anyone to try it out... it's rock solid, easy to configure (or at least no harder than Linux :) ) and _extremely_ well put together.
