You don't have to run dozens of lines to each residence. You just have to run it to a COLO facility for the municipality. Proper VLAN infrastructure can do the rest and auctioning space at the COLO to Providers can do the rest.
AND, I'll be that we'd have better channel choices for less money if we did it that way.
I would consider myself on the "Conservative" side of things, however, I am a Libertarian through and through.
On the one side, I oppose government defining anything for the private sector. The lines between regulation, and over regulation is too blurry.
On the other side, I oppose government sanctioned monopolies creating artificial scarcity to raise prices and dominate market places.
Being a geek, I fully understand the concept of net neutrality. I've seen the stats of Comcast vs Netflix et al and what happens when Comcast DELIBERATELY hinders Netflix packets on their network.
The real issue is there is LACK of choice at the local level (last mile) for high speed internet, due to local municipalities having franchise agreements with Comcast (or others), limiting real choice of network.
Fixing this at the national (federal) or even state level is just going to end up being a boon for politicians and lawyers, and that is really the last thing we need. What we need to do is start working on the last mile issue, providing REAL market choice for the consumer. And until we as people realize that legislating everything is not really a solution, things like this WILL continue to be an issue.
Suicide by gun, doesn't raise the suicide rates. Great Britain has a similar suicide rate to the US (virtually identical), but almost none by gun. People who want to kill themselves, will kill themselves. It simply a anti-gun progressive lie to included suicides by gun in any anti gun debate.
The murder rate in the US is vastly higher than any other developed nation.
Actually, it isn't. If you exclude the top few cities (with strict gun control laws), the murder rate is actually equal to, or less than most other countries. Inconvenient facts like Chicago, with its near total ban on guns, is suffering from the gun violence capital of the world. Take out Chicago, DC, New Orleans, NewYork City (Liberal utopias), and you'll find a different statistic.
It is time to stop looking at (R) and (D) labels, and making kneejerk judgements regarding them. I agree with parts of both (D) and (R) platforms and positions their politicians take. But in aggregate, I hate them equally, but for different reasons.
In the case of ObamaCare/ACA, it is the idea that we can fairly equalize access to health care simply by mandating it, with NO OTHER changes being made (not really). The whole idea of mandated coverages, and whatnot skirt the real issue, scarcity of healthcare resources. We haven't even addressed this, and yet it is becoming clearer every day that the ACA is NOT going to be able to do much of anything that it promised, while at the same time creating even more burdensome bureaucratic bullshit on top. Simply put, rose tinted glasses isn't going to help here.
When my healthcare practitioner takes my temperature and blood pressure, and then has to click 17 different items to fulfill requirements set forth by ACA/HIPA etc etc, then there is a real problem. The Lobbyists and Politicians don't give a shit about real world results, they just want to line up their "I voted for/against ___________" tally marks and get elected.
FOSS isn't going to solve this mess, having a free and open Government will. Requiring all laws be available for review by the public for a period of time, would have solved this boondoggle before it even happened. So I blame the "You'll have to vote for it, to see whats in it" crap that is symptomatic of the problem. And if you like Nancy Pelosi, you're part of the problem. It is criminal what she pulled, and every one of the (D) who voted for it, whether you like the ACA or not, should be voted out of office for participating.
Personally, I do not trust the government. Period. If you do, then don't complain about cops shooting unarmed people, NSA spying on you, IRS auditing you, and not using Plastic bags in California.
I would add... "Be a mentor to a kid that has crappy parents".
I have kids that have no interest in IT. They want to play dress up (COSPLAY) and write stories. And short of the couple of times I got dressed up for Rocky Horror Picture Show, I have no experience in COSPLAY.
Hangouts is not just IM. It is also a fully functioning VOIP client, especially if you use gVoice. Really handy when you don't want to give out your Cell number, but want them to be able to call you. Don't dismiss it, if you don't use it. The fact it also does IM, and Video IM (similar to Skype/GotoMeeting) is also nice. And the ability to do desktop sharing has caused me to almost stop using TeamViewer.
It has finally become a very useful application.
I find it funny that a number of people who "don't want to be tracked" are using Smartphones at all. The only way to "not be tracked" is go all Unibomber and live off the grid.
Same was true with VZ Navigator. On one of my old phones (Blackberry), there was a fully functional GPS chip, that only worked if you paid the monthly fee. It is one of the reasons I'll never use VZ ever again. Verizon isn't just satisfied being largest carrier, it also wants to extract every penny it can from its customers.
Except that all the predictions of Global Warming (Climate Change) made at the beginning haven't even come close to actually coming true. No rise in temperature, no extreme weather, no increased hurricanes, tornadoes etc.
Science is about reproducibility, and for all the "Sky is falling" cries being made, and hockey stick manipulations to amplify their points, to drowning polar bears.... I've seen the "science" and it isn't science, except that the hypothesis' haven't been verified. The ONLY thing I'll agree to is that CO2 is increasing, and Ocean Acidification, neither of which equate to "global warming". There are good reasons for this (H2O vapor is also Greenhouse gas) that haven't been accounted for.
FYI, IPCC is using the same flawed data from the UEA scandal. Just because you change the alphabet letters doesn't mean the scandal has gone away.
All taxes are regressive. The rich (and Corporations) will spend money to avoid paying taxes, leaving those that can't to pay the lion's share. There is no way to avoid this scenario, because taxes are punitive in function (e.g. Alcohol, tobacco etc) if not in practice. And while I agree that we need some form of taxes, they should be voluntary contractual agreements between Citizens and the government.
Unfortunately, the government doesn't really care about citizens, which is why our tax system is so screwed up, and why Political leaders are willing to screw it up more to get elected.
The easiest solution is to tax the velocity of money. Similar to VAT tax, but applies to all monetary exchanges of all types, from bank transfers to buy a house. The lone exception would be all cash (real greenback) transactions. Every Month, banking institutions would send an IRS statement, for each person to write a check on the transactions they incurred. It would be easy, clean and affect everyone, yet be completely easy, transparent and as taxes go up, people notice.
I started to hate ________, and I didn't want to. I did __________ (unrelated thing) for a few years to recharge. I miss it, and have been working to catch up on the last six years.
That is my exact story. I've been doing IT for 30+ years, and there is a six year (yup) period when I sold cars. People SHOULD take time off, or risk burning out. I'd rather have someone who took time off, than someone that is on the verge of burning out.
The hacker nature starts when a kid is six years old and takes apart a bicycle (or whatever). This is where the dad takes the kid and makes him put it back together. And then takes the bike apart, and does it again, only this time, letting the kid "modify" the bike. Hacker Nature is often drilled out (WTF are you doing, hope your happy, have fun not riding your bike because I am not helping you fix it) of kids by parents who are too busy to encourage it. I've seen plenty of parents ruin their kids with attitudes of "no".
"Actually, I've yet to see that come from anyone that's actually in the field of climate science."
Convenient Narrow Definition. I've yet to hear ANYONE that's actually in that field say anything.
Let me know when the AGW enthusiasts/scientists start correcting their spokesmen (like Al Gore, and various celebrities ) when they say stupid shit. I won't hold my breath.
My last phone (Just upgraded) was a Galaxy S3, running the latest Android KitKat 4.4.4. While not supported by Samsung until recently, it was supported by 3rd Party ROM makers, something that Apple doesn't have. And the upgrades along the way made my phone better, smoother, better battery etc.
And it is amazing, the biggest "Pro Apple" response I have is "Consistency", meaning that Apple never really evolves. Then there is the greatest complaint about iOS8 is that it is "too different" and "Sluggish".
My newest phone was less than 1/2 the price of the iPhone6s, with better or comparable specs across the board, and has features that Android has had for two years (or more) that iOS is just now getting. Guess what, at that rate, I can have the one of the best Android phones, twice as often compared to if I bought Apple. If you spend $900 on a phone, you best be getting a very long life out of it, you almost have to.
Comparisons are a two way street. Which is why, when all else is said and done, Apples are equivalent to two year old Androids, and cost twice as much. But they have their walled garden .
" let's use cheaper, more effective solutions that will slow down the virus and save lives."
Like what? Bringing infected people to the US. That sounds like a real good way to keep infections out. Or do you not understand the consequences of bringing African Bees to Brazil for "research"?
Actually, give me one regulatory agency that has shrunk or disbanded itself when it was no longer needed. Off the top of your head. I'm sure one exists, but for the life of me, I can't think of one.
While not "proof" of expanding powers, it is something to contemplate.
They also have a great system for keeping Patients off the books! :)

Our system is designed to prosecute that which can be proved, not an examination for the truth.

And you think Soros, Nancy and Harry and Barack are not ? They only want to "help" people.

Reduce the police department and arm the citizens.
Wow, made up facts! (almost all are untrue)
1) http://rense.com/general76/uni... Refuted

3) Chicago - Refuted.
