So... Linux is dead.
First of all, how the hell do you know? I have yet to see a number that's statistically valid. I've heard anything from 1-8% penetration rates, and since Linux isn't entirely dependent on dollars, it doesn't *need* the massive numbers that MSFT and Apple do to remain viable.
Second, who cares? Linux was always a niche system, and personally I don't want it to get too huge. That can only lead to massive marketization and commercialization, neither of which will be good for Linux.
With all this in mind, I say... So?
I'd love to try BSD, but they have abysmal support for Broadcom Wireless chips (at least without performing a bunch of voodoo that is way outside my level of expertise). If/ when that ever happens, I'll be all over it.
I don't see why this is a big deal. First of all, this is probably the first and last time the issue will even come up (except for maybe the year 2078, when 60-hella hard drives are released), and second, there's a precedent; wasn't the googleplex named by a two-year old or something?
