Great let's reward companies for doing the right thing by stabbing them in the back, brilliant logic.

So they release the GPL ISOs, to a limited distribution channel, ie MandrakeClub. This is the reward that they get?

You can't wait two weeks until the general release happens? Or purchase a MandrakeClub subscription to legitimately download it early?

It makes no sense, you want to use Mandrake Linux, but you don't want the company to survive so you can continue using it?

    Bunch of impatient freeloaders.

Mandrake is one of the greatest supporters of free software, and I don't mean the software you can get without paying someone, I mean open source software. They only allow open source software in the main distibution and support many open source projects.

They block Vonage.com from some places, so it would make sense they block Net2phone also. I had Vonage, and it worked great for about 2 weeks, but then stopped working. All of my traffic from my house went out just fine, *except* for port 5060 traffic, which was being NAT'd by one of their routers. I called and complained, and after being escalated to tier 3 techs, someone fixed it while I was on the phone with him. A week later, the same thing. Vonage got involved and called them and it was fixed. A couple more weeks and it was broken again. I cancelled my Vonage service.

ATT Broadband has a similar "competing" service. I would assume they are trying to stamp out any competition. Since these calls eventually hit a POTS line, wouldn't it be a felony to tamper with the communication?

Had I the time and the money, I would probably hire a lawyer and sue them just to piss them off. But unfortunately, I have not the money nor the time to do so.

Maybe you should call ATT and explain to them that since these calls hit the POTS system, that blocking their communication is a felony and if they don't fix it you will report them. Or hell, just report them anyway and see what happens.

The product was really nice, real-time calenders, MySQL backend. Mac, Windows, Outlook, and Linux clients. It did not do email, but there is no rule that says email and calendering have to be in the same program.

If you can afford it I am sure that the Oracle Suite is really nice.

The answer to a lot of what you are asking is being addressed by Linux Mandrake. The new DrakConf tool that comes with Mandrake 7.0 gives you the ability to change your X resolutions with ease. In fact you can run it as a user and it just prompts you for the root password. The default install of KDE that comes with Mandrake has an icon for DrakConf right on the desktop. The program does a lot more than just change resolutions too. It alows you to add users, change services, do package management, configure printers, configure network, and run linuxconf if you can't get it with the tools that are available in DrakConf. In fact DrakConf sounds a lot like a Control Panel under windows that everyone is talking about in this thread. Also the documentation that comes with Linun Mandrake is some of the easiest to read I have found. Fully intergrated with the KDE Help system. Maybe more people should be checking out Linux Mandrake and what they are doing for Joe User.

They are actaully working on a beta realease to be anounced Real Soon Now (TM). I would say that if you have the card you will not be disappointed in the performance you will get with the drivers.

One thing you do want to do though is read all the information they have on the Utah-GLX site. It does a really good job of telling you how to set everything up.
