    I bet it's biological: the same reason women - on average - are more easily scared, startled, grossed out, etc. than men. Their health/safety is just more important for our species (or at least used to be). Which often leads to excess.

    It always amazes me how people smart in one field can be utterly uneducated and lame in a lot of others. I guess his high school and college didn't teach anything besides math and economics. Or, he's just not interested in anything that doesn't directly bring profit.

    This is terrible, but utterly biased. You're trying to prove the statistics wrong by providing your anecdotal experience. Meaningful to you doesn't necessarily mean statistically significant. I can add all of my friends to the list of men who never harmed women. It won't make the numbers lower, will it?
