Another interpretation (only slightly more extreme than yours) is that even prisoners and inmates of mental hospitals, being citizens, have a right to keep and bear arms - a right that is inalienable under any circumstances.

Comedians have already considered this possibility. Took me a while to realize it was satire.

Maybe it is you who should stay home......

  5. Had a first gen one, just replaced it with a Steel last year.

When I am out biking, I use Runkeeper to display time/speed/distance on my wrist. No need to fumble with a phone. When I am out golfing, I use Freecaddie to show me distance to the green - phone stays in my pocket. When I am driving, I can see incoming texts without risking a hefty ticket looking at a "handheld device". I can see who is calling anytime and decide if it worth taking the phone out of my pocket or not. I can likewise control the music player and leave the phone in my jacket. My regular watchface gives me the time and current weather. The battery goes almost a week on a charge, and it is waterproof.

I don't know that "smartwatch" is really the right name though, basically it is just a remote display, with a few buttons for feedback to the phone, but in that context I find it very handy.

And if you do, I think you are a douchebag, but that is a judgement based only on you individually, and not whatever groups you may ostensibly belong to.

it's obvious the car would have a ton more value if it didn't require a licensed and capable driver.

Absolutely. Children, drunks, the blind and the elderly could all benefit from personal transport. Also, drivers are one of the largest unpredictables for autonomous cars. The less drivers there are, the better they will communicate and work together.

Not to mention that if the cars drive well in normal conditions, the driver is unlikely going to be paying enough attention to "take charge" in an emergency anyway. They will be reading the paper or writing an email or watching a movie on the big screen. Being constantly vigilant and waiting to take over from the car in a split second would be a worse user experience than just driving it yourself.

Myself, I like driving and am in no rush to have an AV, but when they really hit the mainstream I expect manual driving to be highly discouraged.

I've pointed this out before with much derision, but notwithstanding the fact they are all built in China, I am probably better off buying a phone designed and engineered in China as well.

If the Chinese have a backdoor and are spying on me, oh well it is not like they can do much with that info anyway. They don't have cops that can break down my door. They can't mess with my bank accounts. The Chinese don't really care about Joe Western Citizen.

My own government, OTOH, is quite capable of doing bad things based on such spying, and also have a far greater interest in spying on every Joe Citizen. China is much more concerned with spying on their own citizens (for exactly the same reason). Obviously this only applies to typical consumers - businesses with intellectual property to protect or potential military targets are a different argument.

Honestly, I'd rather the Chinese know who I called or where I had dinner every day. Enjoy. Knock yourself out.
