I stand corrected. Yeah, I looked it up myself, unfortunately after I posted that. That was not how I remembered it happening. But my memory was faulty. He actually resigned when Google started working on ChromeOS. But you see if you read that article that Jobs didn't consider Schmidt a spy. It was just that Schmidt had to dismiss himself from so much of the board meetings where there was conflict of interest that there was no point in having him on the board. Thus it seems he was not "given advanced early looks at the iPhone" since he did not participate in those meetings. So do you stand corrected on that?
So you grab random 20 people off the street. Throw out the 10 that seem most intelligent. And then then expect the 10 left over to figure out the cost of damages in a complex (and vague) economic situation. How is that working out?
I think the look you refer to is the one of astonishment over your convoluted logic. How is the existence of the 'concept of X' in any way the same as the existence of X?
Schmidt resigned from the Apple board the second Google decide to work on (actually purchased) Android. Not saying he didn't see something before then, but it wasn't like he was spying the way you are implying it happened.
If you haven't noticed, the human species is extremely impatient. This is especially true of the younger members. How many people pre-order stuff? This is nuts unless they include a bonus for doing so. But a lot of times they don't and people still pre-order. Why? Because they are fucking impatient. They want the thing the second it comes out. Doesn't matter that it is the same (or even better) game or movie a year from now. They want it now! I am sure this is why Day 1 DLC is sold, too. People don't want to wait for DLC, they want it now. "Gime gime gime, want want want, now now now!" That is the typical person. They can't think past their base animalistic desires to realize that day 1 DLC is ripping them off. Maybe later once the buzz has worn off a few brain cells may register that. But by then they are already in line for the next new thing.
In the case where a "war against X" is more harmful in side-effects than the benefits that would be gained from preventing X and is additionally ineffective in preventing X anyway, the war should be stopped. It is only logical.
It seems that the powers declare war against something in order that they can then do anything they want and that is when the harm comes in. For instance there is nothing wrong with being against terrorism and trying to stop terrorist plots. But then you declare war on terrorism and now we have patriot acts and ignoring rules about torturing and elimination of due process and invasive TSA and...
Amen! I had a hell of a time trying to report a bug in the ATI driver as well. And how do you report a bug to netflix? All company web front pages should have big button that says "report bug". People are out here doing free QA for them and they aren't taking advantage. Plus I actually get pissed when I cannot report a bug. And I know I am not alone here, so it is bad PR.
We're not talking about censorship; we're talking about law enforcement. In the US and probably a few other countries, there's a difference between the two.
I am not even sure what you are taking about? What exactly are you saying that it is ok for countries to do to the internet for the sake of law enforcement?
If a terrorist group wants to use the network to plan attacks, and if I want to use it to sell drugs to kids, is that okay?
Sounds fine to me. It is a communication medium. What people do with it is separate from what it is. You don't destroy the functionality of a communication medium because someone might use it for something you don't agree with. If these activities are illegal in your country, you go after the perpetrators, not the communication medium that everyone uses.
Here's some practical neurological science data for you to chew on. The best way to get me to do something is to tell me I am not allowed to do it.
And what's with all the inflammatory language in your posts? Calling people stupid does not make your argument any stronger. To me, it makes it much weaker if you have to resort to name-calling. If I had mod points I'd knock you down whether I agreed with what you are saying or not. But I have noticed there seems to be a lot of Beavis&Butthead type moderating that goes on here that does exactly the opposite. (heh, heh, heh)
That's true of any philosophy that there are those that will distort it to their own benefit or leanings, so why single out and pick on libertarians? And, yeah, why not look at Wall Street? Libertarianism had nothing to do with that. Who is in power? Not libertarians.
What you say doesn't make it any less stupid. They only acknowledge sony design in order to legitimatize their own patent. We patent all wedge shaped laptops except sony already had a wedge shaped laptop on the market so their ok *wink* *wink*.
Well, certainly since Gears of War that has been the case. I have been a gamer a long time and I guess I have seen more interviews from Tim than Cliff. I associate Cliff with Gears series more than with Epic. ID just hasn't put forward a more game-oriented personality for the media to latch onto. And let's face it, they don't put out new games nearly as rapidly as Epic. So Carmack comes out and talks about graphics and game tech instead. ID could really stand to find their own kind of game visionary to put them on the right track as far as gameplay is concerned.
What I am interested in knowing, is did the children actually understand the explanation, or did they just pick the one that they understood the most of?
Or perhaps the one that entertained them the most.
You seem to be the one saying that musicians are something special and need special provisions to make money. Musicians have just as much opportunity to make a million dollars as the occupations listed. And I have seen talented work by plumbers, drivers, and cleaning people. Musician doesn't have the monopoly on skill. So you can move your fingers nimbly over 6 strings. You are just a bard. Get over your inflated self worth. All you produce is entertainment.
but I'd also stipulate that we DO need a system where you COULD become a millionaire
Why do we need that? Do we need a system where a janitor could become a millionaire, or a plumber, or a bus driver? What is so special about the occupation of being a musician that they deserve more than a living wage just like everyone else?

You don't talk about usenet?
The installer forced me to enter an email, my name, zipcode, birthdate, and sex to complete the installation.
And be sure not to enter a birthdate that makes your age less than 18, else it will require you to get your parent's permission to install the OS.

Lamar has been in congress since 1987, too. How about some term limits on these old connected farts!

You may believe it makes sense, but it is still prohibition.

Even the 90%+ that are bullshit live on forever! The solution is to get rid of patent and copyright. And killing the lawyers of course.

I know of no other "public face" who is purely, or even principally, a programmer.
How about Tim Sweeney, Epic Games? In my mind he is the "other" Carmack. I can't think of one without thinking of the other.
What I am interested in knowing, is did the children actually understand the explanation, or did they just pick the one that they understood the most of?

Damned if you do. Damned if you don't.
It makes sense if you realize Mark Cuban has a burr up his butt over Google.

But with no fine the RIAA does not get paid. The *IAA always must be paid!
