Americans have way more than their share of academic achievements, inventions, business creations, and so on.

We would not even be discussing this on slashdot, if it were not for several US inventions.

And what wasn't done by an American, was probably done by some other westerner.

The rest of the world can get all snotty about irrelevant standardized tests, or whatever. But when it comes right down to it, Americans more than hold their own, against any other group.

USA is only about 5% of the world's population. But when it comes to the really big inventions, I don't think the rest of the world even comes close.

Effectively, they took away Amazon's ability to do what was best for itself at the expense of the industry as a whole. After all, Amazon wins by lowering prices regardless of what happens to the publishers

I am not sure that is the way it works. The publishers can make any sort of deal with Amazon that the publishers want. The publishers could tell Amazon, and anybody else, this book has to sell for at least $X. If Amazon did not agree, then Amazon could not sell the book, and publishers would sell the ebook through Apple, or B&N, or whatever - and Amazon would not want that.

Your assertion that Amazon ever had complete control of the pricing does not seem accurate to me. Can you cite your source for that?

Oh, there is a way to win a middle east conflict. Genghis Khan figured this out during his life time and the same principle still applies. If you are going to fight a war in the middle east: leave no survivors. They seem to understand, and respect, unadulterated violence and little else.

I have read that Muslims respect GWB more than Obama for just that reason. Personally, I do not respect either of them.

Problem with killing every Muslim in the mid-east - other than the humanitarian aspect - what are the numerous Muslims in western countries going to do? I am afraid they may fight back in the only way they can.

Nuclear? Then how do we get the oil? Much of the mid-east is not inhabited, I think conventional weapon would do the job just fine.

But then again, what do all the rest of the Muslims, all over the world, do? It is my understanding that revenge is a matter of honor to many Muslims.
