This is what I do - I don't even allow the free option. I just say, if you want me to fix it, that'll be such and such. If they say sure, great, extra money for my next gadget, if they say no then I'm not roped in:P
The only exception is family though - still work on my parent's boxen.
I don't have a problem with not shipping the plugin but at least make it easy to get to or make some page just giving a rundown of another repository you can point to that is outside of the distro (like ubuntu/debian). Making users go outside on the internet and hunt down the documentation to do something so simple is ridiculous.
I agree with this - Linux is not there. I just installed Fedora yesterday after going from a *nix hiatus for the past two years (windows is required at work). Before then I had been a daily linux user for the past two years.
First thing I did after installing was I went to go play an MP3. Can't do that. The music player asks if I want to search for the plugin, I say yup. Then it eventually brings me to a page on the Fedora web page saying "we'd love to tell you how to get MP3s working, but we just can't". Really!? 10 minutes later, I finally found a website that gives me a random command to add a bunch of repos to my package manager, and then another command to install the actual LAME plugin. After that I rebooted back to Windows and haven't gone back yet.
The engine power, the handling.
A hyundai is an appliance car. Good for getting you between point A and B and not bitching along the way. Kind of like a camry.
A sports car is one that has traded durability for pure speed, power, and looks. Not to mention they are a lot more expensive.
If you buy all these obnoxious exhausts, fancy wheels, etc to make it _look_ like a car that is way more powerful and way more expensive then you are a tool.
I've noticed my new creative card does this but my integrated card didn't. Check out your creative card control panel and disable headphone switching - fixed it for me
I think a lot of the forgetting has to do with the multi-step lock process that most people seem to be taught (Control+Alt+Delete then "Lock") rather than pressing Windows + L
What they have done is no different that the cable company demanding root level access to your computer in order to go online. People would be outraged there, why should a game console (which is just a dedicated computer) be any different?
Unfortunatly I'm not sure how many people would be outraged by this. I remember once my parents let the comcast install guy touch their computer when they installed the cable. Jesus Christ, it was like an explosion of adware.
Yes, but it's an opt-out install rather than an opt-in install which most of these toolbars are in the first place. Most people don't notice (hence why they make it opt-out in the first place) and get a load of crap with everything they install.
Well, beyond the ads you speak of, this toolbar is useful in that it makes phone numbers on web pages render as links to call the number in skype which is nifty.
Yes, but another reason to use a CC in this case is that if a thief makes a $500 purchase with your stolen debit card number that money is gone immediately and you have to wait for the bank to give it back to you (good luck with that, that would take a week at the least).
With a credit card, you haven't actually paid anything until the bill comes, and thus aren't out $500 randomly for a week because of some thief.
This is why I like my blackberry. Abundance of buttons.
Plus, when you're in any music app (native, pandora, etc), you can use the volume keys to turn the volume up and down, the mute key to pause/play and if you hold any of the volume keys it goes to the previous/next track.
Yes, you may be able to upgrade, but that's just the software. Hardware is likely to bump up a little bit when 3.0 comes out.
In my past experiences, it's best to wait for the new version of an OS to come out and then get the product rather than updating an existing product. In the first case, the device was designed with that version of the OS in mind, in the second case the new OS is just hacked on. (I'm having flashbacks to my Dell Axim x50v...)
You actually sign a waiver when you get your CA drivers license that states you will give a breathalyser test at the request of a peace officer or you will forfeit your licence for one year.
x2. I have poor, poor writing and note taking skills when it comes to paper. I write really slow, and really sloppily.
My grades went up at least a grade point when I switched to a laptop + OneNote for my class notes.
Not to mention it's way convenient to have all of your class related files, syllabus, etc all in a dropbox that syncs with all of your computers rather than a folder that you one day forget at home with all your important things in it.
In my experience it saves one of the files, and then saves the conflict in a new file.
There have been a couple of times where I see "Hello World.doc" and "Hello World Conflicted Copy blabla.doc" in my dropbox folder.
I know on my Blackberry whenever I install apps it gives me a list of permissions the app is asking for and I have to either approve or deny the permissions.
There has been more than one occasion where I've gone back and fourth with a app developer after their app refused to run without having access to my contacts, gps coords and other things. I believe the last one I encountered this with was a freaking flashlight application.
Doesn't Android/iPhone have this type of thing when apps are installed?
I believe they were talking about magazine subscriptions. Unless your magazine kiosk provides you with subscriptions every month then you're talking about something totally different.
As it is now, when you subscribe all your data goes to the magazine company.
I have to disagree with your BT audio statement.
While I can use bt audio, I would never let it replace an audio plug, it just sounds like shit.
I've got a Blackberry 9630 that's paired with my Kenwood KDC-BT945U. I've done an experiment where I alternated between listening to the same song via A2DP and the 3.5mm jack on the device. The difference really was night and day. Music sounded much better with the plug, the bass was deeper, and the treble was much less harsh.
Don't get me wrong, bluetooth audio is great, but is it is right now it's not moving me away from the plug.
This is what I do - I don't even allow the free option. I just say, if you want me to fix it, that'll be such and such. If they say sure, great, extra money for my next gadget, if they say no then I'm not roped in :P

So you're saying the people over at anythingbutipod.com don't think the iPod is the best value for money? Shocked.

I agree with you - this video had nothing new that I hadn't seen in their countless other Surface videos.

The reviews for that cable are hilarious.

Dead simple while driving.
Poor, poor advice.
I've gotten burned on this before.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that Drunk Driving is hardly socially acceptable. At least not to anyone I've ever met.
Same thing in CA.

Yeah, most won't do this.
I use one of those bose wave radio things as my alarm though, and that does ring the alarm if the clock is running off the backup battery.

I do this too. x2 if you have a convertible. Replacing a top is hardly a cheap or easy job B-)
