Something has slowed knuth down big time whether it is other commitments, reduction in mental capacity, inceasing complexity of the work or some combination thereof.
Knowing that his time will eventually run out, he's been busy creating an algorithm that generates the rest of the volumes in the series.
if i had to guess then i'd say that when you upload your music to amazon they dedupe it so that it only takes a tiny amount of space. and technically it's a separate file so they can just argue that they are providing cloud storage and you're streaming your unique content. when in the end it's all deduped common data.
They can keep deduping and get around the whole argument by deduping at hardware or filesystem block level, instead of comparing complete files. That way, they can just call it a compression algorithm.
"We will not be banning cars from city centres anymore than we will be having rectangular bananas,"
With the recent advances in gene technology, rectangular bananas should be a non-problem. In addition to getting UK cities petrol-car free, banana packaging, and therefore shipping, would become much more efficient. It's a double win, anyone up for the task?
You have the liberty of not using software that is released under a license you don't like.
Liberty does not mean that your actions don't have consequences. You have the liberty of doing anything you want with software someone else created. As a consequence, someone else might have the liberty to sue you.
The code can be just a totally random shared secret (the server generates it and remembers it until it's been used). You would need to send a letter for each cracking attempt, but not get any closer to crack it. You would just have some probabilistic chance to get your letter delivered free. The code just needs to be a long enough number, so that guessers have low enough chance of success not to ruin the mail services's finances. My guess is, anything under 1/100 would be tolerable.
Code errors can be helped to some extent by use of error-correcting code. Or if the codes are just random, accept it if someone gets close enough.
The solution is for everyone to post their drunk/stoned/naked pics on the web, and make sure they're easy to find. Then employers cannot care anymore, if they still want someone to do the job.
I have an alternate theory: maybe they're just a bunch of liars, answering with "what they think would sound better" instead of answering with the truth since the issue itself is unimportant. Little white lies, if you will.
Or maybe they would just feel too silly talking to inanimate objects. I don't talk to myself either.
Unfortunately, Finnish is only effective for instructing ~0.1% of world's population. It is particularly inefficient when yelled over Skype to an Indian outsourcee.
Don't learn the languages. Learn the the paradigms.
Once you know a paradigm, picking up a new language under that paradigm will be just "yet another language", and you can learn one in a week (or 7 in 7 weeks). Of course, it will take more time to actually become fluent in language specific idioms, standard libraries etc, but those are not rocket science either.
Keep a pencil nearby. Explain that you don't enjoy fingerprints on your screen the first time someone does it. The next time he tries to finger the screen, slap that finger with a pencil.
At least anyone wanting to get between you and the cell tower has to use non-consumer hardware. Also AFAIK the 3G security is still holding up reasonably well. 2G is pretty hackable nowadays, but even there the hacker needs something more than just a $200 netbook.
So cellular traffic is more safe, provided that you trust your operator.
And you're obviously from Europe. In the US, we don't have your 60%+ tax rates and we actually *gasp!* pay for the things that benefit us ourselves. Want to sue your company? Why yes, you do have to pay the lawyer because you're the one benefiting from the lawsuit (if it goes your way). Want someone to pick up the trash instead of taking it to the dump yourself? Why yes, you DO have to pay for it!
Actually, where I live (in Europe), if I go sue a company, I'll have to pay my own expenses. I also have to pay for municipal services (like trash), though I'm not sure if they're being subsidised with tax money.
And I don't know anyone with 60%+ tax rate either.
The previous one was about Flash embedded in an Excel file. I'll predict next week a Powerpoint file is involved.

Is it really? The average lifespan of a coal power plant is certainly longer than the average lifespan of a car.
Something from this could be done within the plant's lifespan.

It's easier to replace 2 coal power plants than 100k privately owned cars.

Technically, division by zero could be either 0, 1, or infinity, depending on how you approach the situation.
The other two, however, are just plain bad.
Only thing I remember about Swordfish really is Alex Torvalds, the finnish hacker =D
And the fact that his finnish sounded like some eastern European language, but was definitely not finnish.

To my understanding, they already finnished it when they bought it from norwegians.
It is possible to prevent specific parts of processes' memory from being swapped out.
If it wasn't, the code that is responsible for bringing in pages from swap might end up swapped...
The small text at the bottom of the page:

Naive examination of grade-school vocabulary bears this out. No microscope is capable of 1,000,000 x magnification.
Don't forget your SI units. Optical microscope can observe details that are micrometers in size.

You'll find out most people are quick learners.

If an armed criminal would intrude your house, are you more likely to survive if:
(a) You point a gun at him?
(b) You don't point a gun at him?
... they're not tagging the people in photos! A shame.
My thoughts exactly.
For me, 4 + 3 + 2 = ( ) + 2
=> 4 + 3 + 2 = (empty value) + 2
=> 4 + 3 + 2 = 0 + 2
=> 9 = 2
=> wtf?
