Have IBM and other big iron vendors actually said this?
I can only speak about AIX, and that is a definite NO. AIX development will proceed and is in plan for many years out.
This question comes up internally quite often, and from top of IBM to the bottom, the answer is always that AIX and Linux are complementary choices, not competitors.
According to the online policy guide for my RR connection (Time-warner Austin, TX), servers implicitly allowed...
"...You must adopt adequate security measures to prevent or minimize unauthorized use of your account, including proper levels of security on mail, web and news servers maintained at your location...."
This is in their residential acceptable use policy. I haven't run a web/mail server for about 6 mos., but I assume I still could.
The Goodwill here in Austin does something similar (but not free). Old equipment is donated, people are put to work and learn skills refurbishing (cleaning and testing mostly), and old equipment is sold for cheap. I live down the street and have donated/purchased there for a while, as have coworkers.
Actually, if you ask anyone who is working on these (and I am one of those people - standing in the middle of this monster is just plain cool), it has gone beyond national pissing contest. It is now a corporate pissing contest, and we all know that corporations are bigger than most governments. The US government (taxpayers) funds the competetion, but this is all about IBM beating Sun in the latest round.
They put eight of those into a frame to make 32-way SMP's.
Minor nit: it's 4 8-way procs that make a 32-way SMP.
Yes, increased your online wealth by stealing from the artist ... Strange words to be coming from an artist...?
He's not advocating that you do this. He is stating it as a fact-of-life on the internet. Which it is.

I think you make the mistake of assuming that most signed artists are selling the same amount as Ms. Spears.
The truth is most artists signed by major labels sell in the 10's of thousands of records.
For an interesting read on the whole record label scene, check out this article .

They are already being sued.
Yes, but no-one forces you to write code under the GPL. This is libertarian.
