You are assuming that just because Android holds the most market share at the moment, they will never lose any and will always remain at the top. RIM was a market leader not so long ago as was Nokia. There is every chance either of them could make a comeback and take over or someone entirely new enter the market and gain top spot.

"The maximum power consumption of a 60GHz transceiver is less than 0.3 watts [43]. If all 20K transceivers on 10K servers are operating at their peak power, the collective power consumption becomes 6 kilowatts. TOR, AS, and a subunit of CS typically consume 176 watts, 350 watts, and 611 watts, respectively [9–11]. In
total, wired switches typically consumes 58 kilowatts to 72 kilowatts depending on the oversubscription rate for datacenter with 10K servers. Thus, a Cayley datacenter can consume less than 1/12 to 1/10 of power to switch packets compared to a CDC. Besides the lower price and power, lower maintenance costs stemming from the absence of wires and substantially increased tolerance to failure can be a strong point for wireless datacenters. In summary, we argue that 60GHz could revolutionize datacenter construction and maintenance."
The main thing people don't see when they dismiss Windows 8 and the Modern UI is that it is a clear path moving from the traditional desktop to more touch-centric methods of computing, while still providing the good old desktop we have grown up with. When you hold most of the desktop market, knowing that this market is declining, providing a pathway to newer computing methods can only be good.
The other thing people don't realise is the younger generations will grow up using touch-centric UIs from the beginning - not a shell or desktop OS. Sure, you may not like it because it is different from what you have grown up with and are used to, but it will be the only thing youngsters know. Kids start out these days using their parents tablets and phones - these are the "computers" they first learn to use. Moving to a desktop computer running a desktop OS whether it be Mac, Linux, Windows or whatever, would be a huge step backwards for them. Moving to a Modern UI style interface will make much more sense.
No, especially not the guys running the xbox department.

Who the hell baggage checks their laptop when they fly anywhere? Baggage handlers aren't really known for their excellent handling of baggage. The amount of checked luggage that goes missing is also a factor.
Are you people seriously complaining that a company that provides you a completely free service is going to start showing ads?
Can you please point me in the direction of a free Google service or product that doesn't have ads?
In fact, can you point me in the direction of a highway, TV station, newspaper, magazine, website, game, car race, ANYTHING that doesn't have ads these days?

This is going to be the latest hipster trend, except that hipsters were already doing it before it becomes cool.
