Alpha Geek Chest Beater is right. Slashdot is not the place for articles on how to use an OS (even if most people here already know this). Slashdot's about how expensive new Apple gear is and Windows bashing. Get with the program!
I hear you. Am so tired of all this Victorian whirling gears and spinning disks. It's the freakin' 21st century. Why do I have mechanical computer storage?
The article did mention large chain retailers selling their music and movies as a loss leader to get folks in. This is also hitting the little guy stores.
Hell, I throw around $20 a month towards various web comics, not counting books and shirts I buy. Sure, the comic and the song may be free but there will be other ways to make some money. The king is gone but regular guys should still be able to make it. They just won't be flying around the world in a paisley jet plane any more. Except for the Stones. Mic's too smart a business man to piss it all away.
Somehow, I wrote a simple drawing program in basic on it. You'd put in start/end xy coordinates and it's draw them out. Once everything was drawn you could save it as a standalone drawing (just a basic run list of draw commands). Made several star ship plans for traveller in this. Also created a D&D character generator and database./geek
My TI-99/4A (beige plastic, not cool Titanium shell) still runs ok. Two cassettes of programs also load ok. Only difficulty I had was getting an adapter that'll let it work on my new tv. The local Radio Shack has closed down and had to drive all the way into town to get an adapter.
I'm running OS X 10.4.9 on my PowerBook G3 Pismo, with 512MB RAM. Runs ok. Granted I'm not doing anything more than web surfing, playing DVD's and Office.
I still have my Pet Rock, though the carrier box is rather battered. Thought my Dad was kinda' goofy for the gift at the time. Didn't really get the humor. Still not sure about it either. Still, just goes to show, people will buy anything. Now, if I still had those all metal transforming samurai toys...
Central New Mexico screws me up. North just feels like south. Only place in the US that's hit me like that (driven all over the country; Key West to Maine, Seattle down to Arizona and across midwest several times). Even though there's the mountains to get a visual bearing off of, still feels wonky here and I've lived her for several years now. If I go up towards Taos area, no problem.
I'm still amazed how I can know the external dimensions of my car ('70 Impala, 18' long) and manage to swing into parking spots without hitting anything. Somehow, people can visualize the spatial data and manage this. Wonder how we evolved this trait? From knowing how to hit animals with spears and sticks?
Hell, I can do that. It's how I got around D.C. and Rome, never having been there before. Didn't know roads to take but knew the direction I wanted to get to.
There was some study a few years ago, that found out people have a small portion of their brain that is sensitive to magnetic fields, similar to what they found in homing pigeons.
We should freeze the planet so all the billionaires move to Venus? Some like it hot?
Only good part of the movie was when he called for his shirts to be laundered like at the Tokyo Hilton. That really spoke to me.

It's one of those special Swedish films, with multiple angles to choose from?
It was a really good paper.

I tend to do my music shopping late at night and from home.
And not wearing pants.

A robot composed of hot grits, in the shape of a female. Female octopus that is.
I thought Britain owned the largest amount of U.S. properties and presidents?
So...I shouldn't use a hammer to stab someone, but a chisel?

Zey Googlez, zey do nothing!
Are we supposed to believe that someday soon we'll be out of new melodies and that pop music as we know it is really dead?
One can hope.
Schlechenger's Rat?
Because whenever Microsoft advertises Vista, they always showcase Aero. Therefore, consumers have been lead to believe that they are the same.
So, a brand new '57 Chevy doesn't come with a busty blond leaning over the hood? What about a used '57 Chevy?
I'm waiting for Vista Civ. Or better yet, Linux SMAC-X!
