Because it isn't precisely about stopping racism. It's about shutting up the opposition. Somehow, sadly, we've reached a point where any criticism of Dear Leader is automatically racist, but anything said about other groups like Asians, Indians, Jews, or even whites is fair game.
I suspect you may be right, and it's just damn sad. What you're saying is, in other words, they want everything done for them.
Cloud backup services' ads crack me up. "Unlimited storage for $16.99 a month!" I have 4.5TB of storage on this machine. Uploading that at DSL speeds would take weeks.
I loaded up the RTM version in VMware and played with it a few minutes. Oh, I have loaded up GNOME3 and Unity for a few minutes too. Nothing to see here; move along. They're all still regressive and get in the way of the user efficiently doing his work.
Metro is a piece of shit. It's a tablet interface, and Microsoft is attempting to shove it up the asses of desktop users. Every time I point that out I get modded down as a troll or flamebaiting. Here we go again...
Texas, but not LA, could make a go of things as an independent state, but only for a short while. They'd be an enclave then, sandwiched between a third-world nation and a European-style brave new socialist utopia. They'd dare not prosper too much or they'd be invaded and all their stuff taken. You know, instead of outvoted and having all their stuff taken.
I'm sorry that you don't like me. You're articulate and obviously intelligent, and a capable human being. You really hit the nail on the head when you said that not all cultures are equivalent. From where I sit black culture is doing far more damage to black people than white racism is. There's no difference between you and me: We're both pink inside and we both bleed red.
L2 is bullshit. Sure, it's easy. No gravity well to deal with. The goal should be boots on Mars.
Please don't misunderstand me and think I'm opposed to this. I'm all for it. But as Kennedy (that filthy Democrat!) said, "We do these things not because they are easy but because they are hard..."
VMware is easy to use and is free, as in beer. One of its strengths is that virtual disks can be moved about and that makes it easy to create virtual appliances. There're a ton of them out there on the net, mostly Linux distros tailored for a specific use. I've fooled around a bit with VBox and it's OK. Its performance is not on the same level with VMware. Or you could try Zen. Or attach electrodes to your feet like they did to Ham.
For me, as a desktop Linux user, VMware has been the mac-daddy killer app. There's not much reason to boot to Windows these days except for games, and I've found that what won't run under wine will usually run in VMware with a Windblows guest. Also, there were some kernel taint problem associated with VirtualBox that've been probably fixed by now.
On the other hand, if you're planning on running OS/2 in your guest, then Vbox is the only way to go! I learned that a couple of months ago.
I should amend what I wrote: All of them allow it if you can hand-edit config files. Also, I love XFCE, but why can't they make it easier to set the clock display to AM:PM instead of making the user learn strf? Geeks like me and Slashdot readers might know how to do that, but the average user won't. My point is, KDE allows customization, but makes it user-friendly to new users. I say this as someone who hated the transition away from KDE3.
You hit the nail on the head. KDE seems to be the only user interface left that allows a high degree of customization. I also scanned the article from itworld. The author claims that Millennial users are smart, and then goes on to enumerate the many ways they must be talked down to.
And the moral of the story is don't keep nude pics of yourself on your computer, and never, EVER send them to anyone else, because they WILL find their way onto the internet.
constant hipsterish complaint about widescreen monitors
I've been on calls where the client's machine is a typical widescreen laptop with 768 vertical resolution, who had two and even three browser toolbars (I'm looking at YOU, Oracle/Java and YOU, Yahoo) that'd been 'helpfully' installed, leaving almost no space at all for actual content.
Hipsterish?
Oh, and it's hard enough finding one with a matte display, rather than the glossy bullshit being foisted off on the consheepmers nowdays. They look great in stores where all lighting is from almost directly overhead. Buyers get it home where lighting might not be optimal and the reflections make it almost unusable.
It's all because manufacturers can get away with it, so they cut costs. The display that goes into a 20" widescreen monitor is exactly the same as the one that goes into a 20" widescreen TV. The average non-geek consheepmer decided long ago that price was more important to them than features, so all the rest of us get shitty displays.
Wine can be a bear unless you really know what you're doing. I've never used Crossover, so I can't speak for that. It sounds like it's pretty good, but I balk at the price ($59.95). I'll try to grab the free version tomorrow.

The TSA needs to be abolished. Period.
Apple is the leader, yes. It's just in the wrong direction.
And so are the shills
I didn't do the math when I said 'weeks'. Thanks.
Disclaimer: People WANT to move to the "cloud"

I don't know why this was modded troll. This woman was also responsible for introducing the ribbon in Office, which is nearly universally despised.

W8 is shaping up to be another Me, or Vista. M$ is doing everything it can to force it down peoples' throats.

I have an I-7 2600K system with 16 GB. My SSD is an Intel 520 Series.
Is there any hope for my soul?
Last time I swung my tin my wife laughed at me.
Oh yeah... That's my baseline tin.... Yeah, that's the ticket...
What the AC meant was, Obama killed the manned space program.
From each according to his ability, to each according to his need?
