    Nah. He's a "reporter" specifically he's a reporter who had a hate-on for gamergate. Seems to be a running thing for these anti-gamergate people, everything that they accuse their ideological opponents of whether it be doxing, harassment, and so on. They're actually guilty of themselves. Whether it's Devin Faraci, Zoe Quinn or Randi Harper, same shitty people engaging in shit behavior.

    I mean, it's a troll, and a bad one, but you could at least try a little harder.

    Hate to be the one to tell you this, but university has changed in the last ~15-25 years since you or I were there last. What the GP was talking about, is pretty much the norm in quite a few universities. You see it here in Canuck universities like Brown and University of Toronto quite often. This is usually rounded out by several parts of the course material(or other courses) making statements like "the patriarchy is what's keeping us women down."

  3. More is likely. They lost $800m in the last quarter, more actually if they hadn't gotten an injection from said sale of assets/asset merger in China. In other words, they're likely on track to blow through $4-7B next year. What absolutely blows my mind is that they have given uber a valuation of $70B. That's more then GM, Ford or Chrysler and they make physical products, have credit/banking divisions, and own subsidiary companies in everything from trains and planes to data management. Hell that's half the valuation of Intel, and they're the backbone of the IC age. To say that Uber is overvalued is an understatement.

    Companies pay money to the government here to test their new roadway materials, paints, reflections and so on because the 401 is considered one of the "worst case" scenarios for vehicle damage to blacktop. It's likely though that roads that have this will have restricted traffic weights.

    Another fun bit from Canada. This one has to do with margarine. Those consumer protection laws are exceptionally useful, many of them up here also cover all contracts. And ensure that things like software aren't licenses, but considered an "owned product" much like a physical purchase. I know that many US states are finally catching up, but here in Canada they exist because many companies up here have in the past been far worse then American companies. An example back oh a decade or more ago Rogers(think Comcast for Americans), turned around and added new channels to customers without permission. The kicker? They also billed those customers for the channels without any notification. This led to consumer protection laws being further strengthened, and Rogers losing numerous court cases. Then being fined, and having to retroactively either pay that money back to people who cancelled or discount them directly the amount on their bills.

    Considering the problems we have along sections of the 401? Unless the material is both strong and flexible, it'll never catch on. Right now the highway around here uses a multilayer solution to stop flexing and destroying the blacktop layer. These days around here it's a 10" sand layer, followed by 12-18" gravel crush, 8-24" concrete layer and a final 6-18" blacktop layer. That's along one of the busiest highway section in the world(Toronto to Detroit).

    You should check out the gamergate page. Not only have dozens of editors been banned for edit warring, but the entire thing is a complete mess where even factual information is removed because it's contrary to the people who are pushing a narrative. That's the same article where a dozen hardcore feminists were banned for edit warring, and it's gone to abcom at least 3 times because of progressive parking and edit warring. It's pretty sad when "know your meme" and "encyclopedia dramatica" have more factual articles.

    For most people gaming isn't a hobby, any more than watching movies or reading books is a hobby. A hobby is something you do to achieve some goal (usually self-improvement), as opposed to something you do just for entertainment. Of course there are people who do play video games as a hobby, but mostly it's just entertainment.

    Thanks for proving that you don't know what a hobby is. I'll wait with baited breath as you trot out that gamers are dead.

    As for the sexist/misogynist criticism, I know you haven't actually seen Tropes vs. Women but those videos are very careful only to make that claim where it is really justified.

    You mean like the "there's no sexy men" and "I can't look at batman's ass" because she too stupid to figure out that not only can you change his suit. But while wearing the cape it's a "stiff piece of equipment used for flight." Hey, I can stare at Geralt's tight ass all I want though. Or would you like me to start into the parts where she cites articles that don't exist, or have fundamentally different conclusions then the ones she's presenting. Or that many parts of the "research" and I use that term loosely, have the classic conclusion, research to verify conclusion form of writing?

    There's a difference between needed regulation that's actually observable. And regulation based on a hypothesis that can be disproven or is sketchy. Just a FYI though, we still use CFC's a lot...same with freon. But let's continue on a bit, remember that "sulfur emission" stuff? Remember how the environmentalist groups were screaming that it would kill all the trees, and people would have to wear plastic bubbles outside? You know that it's your favorite environmental groups protesting things like fish farms these days too, because they're "not raised in their natural habitat." Never mind that outside territorial limits, that quite a few countries ignore those rules anyway. That's not even touching on the various groups that are fully exempt from those regulations.

    GPU's haven't hit the level that CPU's do in terms of miniaturization yet. Current crop of GPU's are ~16-20nm, while CPU's are just starting production at 10nm. As well, there is a lot more GPU offloading going on these days then CPU offloading. One of the big problems has been memory bandwidth, and it almost always has been a huge problem with GPU's. Luckily HBM covers most of those issues, and in turn has pushed the next gen of memory to the desktop side. That in itself is good all the way around, since it's helped push DDR5 memory prices way-way down.

    Call me when Uber WILLINGLY follows even common-sense laws.

    You mean stuff like 6-mo safety checks, proper vehicle insurance, mandatory first aid(usually level C, though some places allow level B) and so on? I agree. Their entire belief that the laws don't apply to them because "they don't believe they're a cab company" when yes, they are. And those regulations and laws exist because back when cab companies were new -- the whole lack of regulation, vehicles in poor repair causing deaths, etc. Has already happened.

    For those that don't know the first aid levels that Uber didn't want to follow here in Canada. Lowest is A, then B, then C, highest is HPC(doctors/nurse/etc). A is basic CPR basic first aid+emergency care for deadly bleeding. B covers CPR+infant CPR+level A. C is basically AED+emergency first aid+plus A & B level requirements and is the same basic level that paramedics, police, fire, etc get. It's 8hrs to get certified, and it's good for 3 years here.

    It is a legitimate hobby. But then again, you had people who believed that gearheads of the 40's and 50's and working on cars was the path to gangs, violence and all that. The same people who say gaming isn't a hobby, are the same types ~30 years ago that would have been spouting that D&D creates satanists(because D&D isn't a hobby). And DOOM makes kids into serial killers. And are likely right there saying that gaming is sexist/racist/misogynist today.

    Jack Thompson had exactly zero impact outside of the US. Why does everyone over there think the world only revolves around them? Nobody even knew about him and the only game studios that even considered him in any way relevant were studios whose core market was the US. And those studios quickly lost ground, too.

    And the biggest front for the video game industry was then at the time where? That's right...the US. Of course these days with gaming being much less centralized, that's not so much of a problem. But let's compare Japan vs the US. A studio in the US will bend to public pressure put on them by a loudmouth whether it be a feminist whining about the ass of a character, or someone crusading against violence. The response from Japan's gaming scene? Too bad. And that extends into other areas as well, movies, cartoons, etc.

    If you think hard as to the reason I gave an archive link, you'll get it. Did you read that page? You get to the part where she promotes a person who's primary desire is to ban games. No? Go back and start reading.

    This may be beyond your understanding, but when a person pushes "critiques" without substance, and no alternatives. They're just a little moral authoritarian that wants things their way, instead of letting creators make the things they want. FYI: Her version of feminism is part of the same group that pushed to ban GTAV based on the lie that the premise is to "rape hookers, and beat them to death for health."

    Only applies to women sorry to say. It's the same reason a man can be sexually assaulted by a women and the response is what? That's right, laughter. Or a man who's beat on by a women in a domestic violence case is told to "man up." Or if a women sexually assaults a minor, she'll get anything ranging from a suspended sentence to a few months in jail. With the very rare case of a few years. While a man doing the same will see years, sometimes a decade. Not talking consensual here, we're talking actual rape by either gender. It's very rare to see those sentences reversed.

    It's the same reason why when a women who's abusive and "put's everything out there" on public display is lauded a hero. But if a man does the same thing, he's "out to ruin her life." Haven't even touched on things like divorce or child custody. People can see enough of that disparity if they go spend a couple of days at their local courthouse. You'll see things like, the women being abusive to the children -- with physical marks, broken bones, and so on. And the judge handing her custody, even though the man has a steady job and support of family members to watch the kids.

    Most people that are for maternity leave (including myself) are also for paternity leave. And disability benefits. These things are not mutually exclusive and they really don't change the debate here at all.

    Now here's your chance to go look at the context of the entire discussion, and then go do a bit of digging. Let me know when you get to the part where radfems are against males having paternity leave, that women who have kids are traitors, and that disability benefits should go to women who have to "put up with men." You'll have fun down that rabbit hole.

    What a strange world you live in, where the games industry agreed with Jack Thompson. As I recall the main reaction was to spoof him in a number of games and increase the violence levels with ever more realistic graphics.

    Yeah that never happened of course, but maybe you spend part of your time in an alternate reality. The only reason he stopped being an issue, was because he was tromped all over by the media. And was eventually disbarred by lying before the courts.

    As for Sarkeesian, did you know she isn't actually against violence in games?

    You mean besides her pushing of this stuff? Having a bit of a problem telling the difference between her and Thompson yet? Or would you prefer the part where she's pushing ideologies to ban video games? Just like Thompson did. And at least Thompson had the testicular fortitude to defend his viewpoints against multiple people. Something she never does, and when questioned on it starts whining that it's misogyny.

    FYI: Those video games had been in development for years before she started this stuff.

    Game developers pushed back against anti-feminists because the recognised Tropes vs. Women for what it is - a series of well made arguments and suggestions for changes that are often easy to make and invariably improve games.

    No, they didn't. In fact most developers didn't want anything to do with her. EA even went as far as to state that she had nothing to do with the development of their game(s). But those series are full of so many factual errors you could write an essay on that alone. Never mind that their sources are so poor, or don't exist at all -- or present a complete opposite of the viewpoint she's pushing. But keep in mind that she was also right there, whining at the UN and complaining that "harassment is people demanding proof" and the internet should be censored to protect her.

    The first. You do know that don't you? That's why politicians, people, groups, and so on are so afraid of saying anything that would be contrary to the views that radfeminists are pushing for fear of being attacked, lose their job, lose funding and so on. Those are the same people, with the same views in positions of power, pushing their ideologies and in some cases implementing them and having a direct impact on society.

    This is an incoming President of the United States

    And it was stupid, still works out to being locker room talk. And it was still in the realm of consensual behavior -- go listen to the entire thing if you think otherwise. But has zero actual impact on society, unlike the first group of people.

    And unlike Trump, those people who promote those views have cost people their jobs. Tim Hunt? Donglegate? Matt Taylor? Those names, things ringing any bells yet? All those people who've lost their jobs, reputations and so on because some women has regretted sex the night before(aka fake rape claims), or those who've been attacked for false sexual harassment claims. I'm sure the UVA story was great right, very telling. Best example of fake news to hit the mainstream. But never mind that those radfems then push the "it doesn't matter if it's fake," it was "starting a conversation on the issue." The only upside is that they've also done a great job of creating a backlash against them. But it's going to be likely years before they lose enough power that they're no longer a threat to someone who tells a shitty joke.
