  1. Hide them on What To Do With All of My Gadget Chargers? · · Score: 1

When I remodeled my kitchen I had a double outlet put inside an upper cabinet and plugged an outlet strip mounted on the back of the cabinet into that. I keep all charging cables and devices in that cabinet organized on some small shelves. Everything is at eye level so it's easy to plug and unplug devices.

I checked all the chargers with a Kill-A-Watt device to tell me which ones draw juice when they are not charging, and marked them. So I unplug those when they are not in use.

I close the cabinet door and everything is hidden from view.

  2. The real problem on Why Corporates Hate Perl · · Score: 1

"Its because the Perl code has developed piecemeal over the last ten or so years in an environment where there was no design authority. Many of these systems date back to this company's first steps onto the Internet and were made by separate departments who had no interaction with each other."

This is the problem, not Perl. Unless this is fixed, whatever shiny new technology you use now will be in the same state as the perl code ten years from now.

  4. Re:HDTV on FCC Says Analog TV Lives Until 2012 · · Score: 1

I live in a downtown area that has horrible multipath interference. I was never able to get OTA Analog TV at all. Only static. I put up a $50 HD antenna one day and, after some minor tweaking of the antenna position, had all the local channels in perfect SD or HD. I was amazed, as I expected to get nothing. I canceled my Directv account. My viewing habits are met by Local Channels + Netflix, which won't be true for everyone.

Quality does matter with an antenna. One of my neighbors is using one of the cheap HD antennas Best Buy sells and he gets half the stations I do.

+1 to AC's comments about higher quality potential over OTA and using antennaweb.

  5. Pay The Artist on How iTunes Hurts Weird Al · · Score: 1

I figure I have about 50 mp3s of Al's songs. The "distribution channels" I used to get the mp3s did not cost the label, itunes, or the RIAA a dime. The cost of producing the music originally must already be paid off if Al is being paid by the label, per the article.

So it appears the only person I owe some money to legitimize my mp3s is Al himself.

Assuming Al gets paid the rates quoted in the article, if Al is making .045 cents per downloaded song, then I owe Al personally $2.25. At his CD rate of .31 per song, I owe him $15.50. Being that I'm a nice guy and I like the tunes, I'd pay the higher rate.

So put a paypal link on you site Al and I'll send you some dough!
