    Get real. They're bitching about missing versions of a report that they chose to ignore anyway. Officials at the National Archives thought that Berger just had copies, and not the originals, so why should anyone believe that Berger thought any differently?

    Right, and they'll claim that her identify is supersensitive, yet they won't prosecute someone who publishes the info (Novak). They will, however, prosecute someone who protects the info(Miller).

    For crying out loud people, just because you voted for Bush doesn't mean you owe him your undying support. Oust the bastard. This shit makes Watergate look like a college prank.

    This disk cache can't speed up sync'ed writes. Another disadvantage to that approach is that by moving big datasets thru the fs cache, you might constantly be blowing out more useful stuff.

    What distinguishes this from RAM is that it's non-volatile. That's what I didn't like about the parent's idea of using it as swap. For some applications, a NV /tmp can be valuable. Otherwise, I agree with you. Put the fastest storage as close to the processor and DMA channels as possible.

    I disagree. If it's virtual memory you want, then you would be better off putting the memory right in a DIMM slot.

    This type of storage makes for a good /tmp where you want lower latencies than a disk, but don't care that it's not as fast as RAM.

    Another good use would be to use it as a filesystem cache for the OS on a diskless network client.

    That would make the music show a defacto advertisement. People would tune out in droves. By hiding the money, they can make an ad seem like a music show.

    Listeners don't like being lied to, and given that the airwaves belong to them, they have a right to honesty.

    Honest artists and producers don't like it because it's anticompetetive. Implicit in the deal that "you will play *our* music more" is the undeniable fact that "you will play *their* music less".

    What amazes me, is that they've been getting away with the "new payola" for so long now. I think it's fair to say that the reason "popular" music sucks so bad is that most of it doesn't become popular on its own merit. Its popularity is engineered in boardrooms.

You hooked it up, went online with it, spent hours playing the game and watching their copyrighted ads. You think they don't have a right to know about it?     bits/cylinder and rotational speed is what really matters.

    Squeezing more tracks onto the platter increases increases the data density but does nothing for transfer speeds.

    Squeezing more bits onto a track also increases the data density, but there could be fewer platters.

    It was no surprise though. As the leader of his party, he did them a great disservice. Whether or not the affair makes a difference is irrelevant. He knew what the perception would be if he got caught. He should not have done it, and if he hadn't, there's a good chance that Gore would have beaten Bush in 2000.

    Yes, I did. Are you saying that the Monica Lewinski scandal did not play right into the GOP's hand? Why do you think they were such pit bulls about it? It was definitely a drag on Gore's campaign and he tried to distance himself from the president because of it. I'm hardly the first one or the only one who subscribes to this theory.

    I'm far more angry at the GOP and the Bush administration in particular. I'm probably just jaded enough to expect that the GOP will stand blindly behind its leader. It's a disappointment that the Democrats are not acting as a party when the GOP so clearly is.

    The Dem's sound bite on this is that they support the extension, but they have some "concerns" about civil liberties. Gee, thanks a shitload for giving us absolutely nowhere to turn to for sanity in this country. I apologize to the few honest politicians left out there for saying that the entire system is fucked.

    They're also trying to make hay by criticizing the war in Iraq. But where the fuck were they before we, for the first time in history, started a war where none already existed?

    Fuck you, Bill Clinton, for demeaning the office of President in such a way that infinitely corrupt GW could trick a bunch of right wing zealots to vote for him despite the pain he has caused.

    Were you not trying to imply that James Doohan was a bad parent? That's what it sure seemed like, given the context in which you said it. In any case, I think your remark was way out of line, especially considering that the thread is about the man's death.
