There was this great US-wide competition called something to the effect of "WordMasters"... my school traditionally placed in the top thirty.:-)
At any rate, although analogies are certainly helpful with the SAT, they're by no means an exercise to prepare students for the aforementioned tests. Analogies are an excellent way to stretch the mind and force logical analysis of very few facts - not just some goofy way to learn the tricks of the SAT.
Hmm.. I'm writing this at a school workstation, and it seems aadcarko didn't log off slashdot, and I didn't notice. Oops! -aardvarko

And Apollo 1. I think that overall the US has lost more people than Russia, but Russia's had more failures that result in 1 or 2 deaths, while the US tends to take out 3 or more poeple at once. -aardvarko

"Also, Winamp fits into a nice 274x114 space. Sonique looks as if it takes up over 400x400. "
FWIW, I recall Sonique having a compact mode that took about 150x50px (could be wrong, it's been a year or two:-) that expanded a bit on mouseover. Not as compact as WinAMP's WindowShade mode, but not too bad.
"(BTW, Is the IIIc a paletted 8 bit display a la VGA, or do you simply have a fixed set of 256 colours?)"
It's paletted - for example, FireViewer modifies the palette for color images, and Mandelbrot modifies the palette to a rather ugly set for better fractaliciousness.
"Non-color devices: Palms, cell-phones, terminals, lynx, etc."
FWIW, the color Palm IIIc has an 8-bit video controller; the default system palette is the 216 Web palette and 16 shades of grey. It's pretty schweet with AvantGo. -aardvarko

"Credit for SuperSlack goes to moomonk@dokks.com for altering ZipSlack so that it works on the SuperDisk drive. Feel free to copy, distribute or modify the files found on this server in any way you please. All terms of the GPL apply. "
This is something that'd be particularly important to get correct and bug-free; the colonization of Mars would involve human lives. Somehow I can't even visualize the PR fiasco if this device fails with people relying on it. -aardvarko webmaster at aardvarko dot com
