    ie: it is a part of linuxjournal.com

    Correcton - sometimes X is a pain to setup

    Probably about 75% of the tie it auto configured (probably ore on mandrake)

    I just tested it. The proble doesn,t see to be javascript but java.

    I turned off java and it cae straight up

    think java is still a problem in mozilla

    Just a few points to add

    Admittedly even though I'm not a programer I am a bit of a geek (there is a difference)

    As regards the argument re MS v Linux ease of Use

    This term means a multitude of things.

    IMHO ease of use in Linux is better - the reason:

    Linux s portrayed as havng a steep learning cuve -yes but at least it has one

    In windows (inc NT) once you get past the very basic stuff, especially if you never used dos, the learnng curve is nearly vertical

    In addition the learnng style of linux teaches you about the fundaentals of a subject not just what you need to know now

    Overall in my experience the motto of perl is very apt "make smple things easy and difficult things possible"

    Most people using Liux that I know are much lke me

    Used indows/dos for years dscovered linux and go into windows f they absolutely have to (usually at work)

    Three standard apps in Linux which cost mega in M$ 1. sed 2. grep 3. gcc (+perl I know it's available but it is not there already) These more than outway all your suggestions with the possible exceotion of autocad (never had a reason to use t so can't comment)

    I used to think that (even though I don't use Kde it might have been a persuasive reason to think about switching)

    but then galeon appeared and I have to agree it is awesome. Mozilla is unusable on my pc due to the memory footprint - everything else just crawls.

    With galeon really really fast no appreciable effect on other apps (48mb mem 300mhz machine) This is the browser we have been waiting for on gnome.

    Sure you have the bulk that is mozilla but basically it just sits there.

    This has been said ad infinitum but

    the reason explorer loads instantly in M$ is that it is already loaded - which is why it takes so long to boot up

    Also this may be heretical but am I the only person who does not think gmc sucks

    My opinion is it is fast does cool stuff lke shoing me contents of tar/rp files installs rp's from gmc

    Useful stuff not crap features that you ca't turn off (eg most of what's in explorer)

    You have gotta be doing sommat wrong I run mainly gnome on a cyrix 300 and trust me explorer is not faster than kfm (I look at kde now and then)

    Definitely should - using it now.

    Installation

    get a build of mozilla

    copy to /usr/local

    pull rpm from website http://galeon.sourceforge.net (I think), rpm -i etc

    In gnome at least it puts itself on the internet menu

    I have been using galeon for about two weeks now. In comapaison to mozilla t rocks. Whenever I fire up mozilla (compiled with no mail, news,debugging) it slows my sysstem down to a crawl. With galeon fast and no appreciable effect
