    As andrake 7.2 is not shock,horror perfect will we get some prat posting about x nuber of bugs and saying withdraw it ala RH7 (which IMNSHO rocks)

    They do on v7 distros - definitely RH and mandrake- cant comment on others

    most distros include the bulk of the LDP on the CD

    Just one point

    Yes - if it works the windows way is easier

    but if it don't (I admin NT boxen and trust me often it don't)

    It is a lot EASIER in linux

    The learning curve is different

    Linux - initial learning steep - afterwards progressive MS -initial learning curve fairly easy afterwards vertical

    Assuing you are using an mbox based mail client open up the mbox in any editor and check the headers.

    No-one else seems to have a problem with it

    Especally as the last time I tried posting to the main samba newsgroups I got "posting is not allowed"

    Flame on This is written as 1. A access bug has just decided to wipe out the names names from one of my databses 2. NT "backup" has spent the last day deciding whether to restore the db And people wonder why MS get flamed BTW the software (access97) and sql is identical on two NT boxes , one did an update query properly and the other wiped out the data.

    Try this test

    find a really slow site (eg: pcworld.co.uk) page up netcraft and put the url in

    It will come up NT/W2k/IIS guarenteed

    opposite applies as well

    Correction - "especially" with this investment Corel won't be challenging Office - despite the fact that IMHO it is still a better product (yes I have to use word and excel at work)

    The question is of course when Corel sosay joined the Linux camp why did they mess about with creating a distro (which didn't work with serial ice) instead of doing what would have helped Linux (and theselves) ported corel office to Linux properly and quickly

    Since M17 source compilied versions on linux are fast (havn'nt tried builds - I'm cvs'ing galeon daily so not really a lot of point)

    Try upgrading office 97 to office 2000 (note I am using pure MS examples) whle keeping access 97 on the system Then you get delete dll's, registry entries ad infinitum

    1. Am I the only one who is totally pissed off by the first 20 or so posts on an open source issue talking about the yanks elelection (hint - slashdot is on the net so maybe it's not yanko-centric

    2. Why is it alll the the the adolescent prats (probly runnng KDE and slagging of RMS cos they have no clue!) seem to to feel that as soon as a RH story appears Red Hat just has to be slagged off

    Lets make this point again kiddies Red Hat have probably contributed ore to FREE (not OSS) software than anyone else (inc debian - just)

    The point of the story is that basically a site for free software controlled by a propriety s/w copany has to all intents and purposes been taken over by a company that note not BSD, QPL,MPL or any other "I can shaft you later but aren't I virtuous" license eg: QPL ala KDE)

    2. Note Has invested a not insignificant aount of money in making a proprietory site into a free sotware site

    To add, IMHO the worst software to install is OFFICE ie: the poxy all in one solution favoured by phb's

    Example running access2000 and 97 together - not fun

    Since when?

    I have installed several NT boxes and Linux boxes and without exception the RH boxes are far easier to set up and configure

    If you want to use Gnome then you probably should look elsewhere... There are some Modzilla projects to port Modzilla to everything under the sun... odds lay good that a GnomeZilla project exists.. It does - It's called galeon (using it as I speak)
