Flame on
This is written as
1. A access bug has just decided to wipe out the names names from one of my databses
2. NT "backup" has spent the last day deciding whether to restore the db
And people wonder why MS get flamed
BTW the software (access97) and sql is identical on two NT boxes , one did an update query properly and the other wiped out the data.
Correction - "especially" with this investment Corel won't be challenging Office - despite the fact that IMHO it is still a better product (yes I have to use word and excel at work)
The question is of course when Corel sosay joined the Linux camp why did they mess about with creating a distro (which didn't work with serial ice) instead of doing what would have helped Linux (and theselves) ported corel office to Linux properly and quickly
Try upgrading office 97 to office 2000 (note I am using pure MS examples) whle keeping access 97 on the system
Then you get delete dll's, registry entries ad infinitum
1. Am I the only one who is totally pissed off by the first 20 or so posts on an open source issue talking about the yanks elelection (hint - slashdot is on the net so maybe it's not yanko-centric
2. Why is it alll the the the adolescent prats (probly runnng KDE and slagging of RMS cos they have no clue!) seem to to feel that as soon as a RH story appears Red Hat just has to be slagged off
Lets make this point again kiddies Red Hat have probably contributed ore to FREE (not OSS) software than anyone else (inc debian - just)
The point of the story is that basically a site for free software controlled by a propriety s/w copany has to all intents and purposes been taken over by a company that note not BSD, QPL,MPL or any other "I can shaft you later but aren't I virtuous" license eg: QPL ala KDE)
2. Note Has invested a not insignificant aount of money in making a proprietory site into a free sotware site
If you want to use Gnome then you probably should look elsewhere...
There are some Modzilla projects to port Modzilla to everything under the sun... odds lay good that a GnomeZilla project exists..
It does - It's called galeon (using it as I speak)
As andrake 7.2 is not shock, horror perfect will we get some prat posting about x nuber of bugs and saying withdraw it ala RH7 (which IMNSHO rocks)
They do on v7 distros - definitely RH and mandrake- cant comment on others
most distros include the bulk of the LDP on the CD
Yes - if it works the windows way is easier
but if it don't (I admin NT boxen and trust me often it don't)
It is a lot EASIER in linux
Linux - initial learning steep - afterwards progressive MS -initial learning curve fairly easy afterwards vertical
Ever heard of text expert mode
QBE does not mean typing in the exact field name - it means using example elements as in pdox
Assuing you are using an mbox based mail client open up the mbox in any editor and check the headers.
Any slas discusion on a technicalish subject - people post questions - people who can help post suggestions
Gcc,perl,python ad infitum
No-one else seems to have a problem with it
Especally as the last time I tried posting to the main samba newsgroups I got "posting is not allowed"

find a really slow site (eg: pcworld.co.uk) page up netcraft and put the url in
It will come up NT/W2k/IIS guarenteed
opposite applies as well

Since M17 source compilied versions on linux are fast (havn'nt tried builds - I'm cvs'ing galeon daily so not really a lot of point)

This is /. we does not apply to anyone outside of USA

'nuff said
must have been imagining gmc , kfm or even the venerable xfm then
Since wwhen do beginners administer NT or Linu boxen?
Example running access2000 and 97 together - not fun
Did I say linux was redhat - I said that the boxes that I set up were RH
I have installed several NT boxes and Linux boxes and without exception the RH boxes are far easier to set up and configure
NT faster - I ust get a new watch for y dual boots
Difference being - you access to the manual in linux
Less than once a day?????
not quite my definition of almost never
